'09 Josh Nunes - QB, Upland, CA

Throwing people under the bus is not very smart. Give the guy a chance, he might prove you wrong. Also if I Nunes and read this post I would be concerned about your loyalty to the team and players.

no you wouldn't, if you were Nunes and you read this post you would be wasting your time when you should be working on your game.

Are Nunes grades/ACT good enough to get him any academic scholarships? It would be sweet if he didn't use up a scholly.

thats a good point. could that be why we are getting a couple more players then we thought we would get?

Petty will be nothing more than a backup as long as Josh Nunes is here. Mark my words

you guys argue over the dumbest stuff!!! It is amusing though how about talent level each quarterback plays against that might have something to do with it. I would bet that nunes plays against better talent and will probaly be farther along than petty but who knows we will have to wait 2,3,4 or maybe we will never get to see how they turn out.

I'am not a fan of getting qb's off the left coast. Most of the time they don't know the tradition and don't care. You have to admire any young kid who would come all the way across the country to play football though.

So you don't like it because he either doesn't know or doesn't care about the tradition, but you admire him at the same time? This whole train of thought really confuses me. Is it only the QB position that we aren't allowed to recruit a west coast kid to play? Nobody seems to bring up where our current RB is from, he seems to have done alright.

I read this as a poster who is being open minded enough to see all the different sides a player may bring to the table. Taking a look at the way west coast fans from an SEC perspective seem to view college football in general, they mostly seem to have a laid back view of competition and traditions that southern folks don't share. As we have seen in the past though ....sometimes...it makes for a good chemistry mix.

That is fine, I understand the general perception (even though I think some folks put WAY too much emphasis on it sometimes). The disconnect for me is why it only seems to apply to one position on the field. I know the QB is almost always the most important position on the field but wouldn't a laid back, west coast RB or MLB be detrimental as well? If they aren't as competitve because of where they come from wouldn't that be applicable, too? I disagree with the entire concept but even looking at it from the other side of the argument, why does it begin and end with the QB?

I love that people can make talent evaluations based on star ratings and recruiting highlight clips.

If you found out that he liked grits and listened to Lynrd Skynrd, would you feel better about his prospects?

Assuming he makes real grits, not those fake instant ones. No self respectin' Southerner uses instant grits.

...Because Bryce Petty is going to beat him out at UT.

Based on watching both of their videos, Petty is hands-down the better QB. You can tell that Petty has "heart" which is not coachable.

Nunes is another West Coast QB that's coming to Knoxville knowing absolutely NOTHING about the culture of the South, what it's like to play football in the South, and the expectations that come with being the QB at TN.

I think Nunes is a fine QB, but I think this Petty guy will beat him out for the starting job once the chips fall where they may.

Petty is just a tougher guy.

Congratulations!...That's about the single most stupid comment I've ever heard on this board.

So now that we've heard your "opinion"; what "facts" do you base your "opinion" on?

He bases it on the "fact" that southern boys can kick the crap out of people from every other part of the country. Apparently someone missed history class.

Agree...Burnette and Simon were high motor LB's from the left coast.

I guess southern boys are getting thumped since our last 3 QB's (Clausen, Clausen and Ainge) were from the left coast? Running off AJ Suggs and that other texan that ended up at A&M.

What say you?

take it for what it's worth, but when I asked a couple of people that follow recruiting relgiously, about Bryce Petty, all 3 of them said "Who?"

Peyton ran Brandon Stewart off.

You are correct...He ran both Suggs and Stewart off.

Anyway, the fact remains UT has had west coast QB's for the past decade or so. Too bad we can't throw in Elway, Moon, Brady, Leinart, Palmer...The point is the left coast tends to produce top notch QB's and we should continue to probe the wealth.
