'09 TN DL Daniel Hood (merged)

I say give him a chance. What he did was a terrible thing but he's kept his nose clean for 5 years and worked hard to overcome the stereotypes associated with this issue. We have had players who beat the snot out of their girlfriends about once a month on campus who never even as much as got a slap on the wrist but were applauded by the fans and became NFL Stars. Former players involved in shootouts with campus police, involved in stabbings, gang rape, selling cocaine out of Gibbs Hall, brawls on the Strip where numerous students were injured and thieves who stole checks, cash and calling cards from fellow students and teammates and at least two former Vols currently in prison for murder. If Kiffin and Hamilton think he's a good kid then let's welcome him into the Big Orange Family. Young kids make mistakes but deserve a second chance if they truly are committed to being a better person.

I am all for second chances but I dont know about this. This is unforgivable but he was young. I guess CLK will make the right decision.

There are people who commit crimes and are released and never do it again yet are ridiculed and made to feel that they aren't worth the skin that is attached to them the rest of their lives. Is that right??

You're right. But i don't think he should be rewarded a scholly at a big time program like UT. Let him go somewhere else. I'm sure he would fit in at Memphis.

k-town king. you and head1 need to look at yourselves first. There is no such thing as something unforgiveable. the bible says we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That's everyone. including me you and him.

I agree, let him be a preferred walk-on, and earn his way to a scholarship. Appears to have good grades and ACT, so he could apply for an academic scholarship if it isn't too late.

I think the best thing for this young man is to stay close to home. Going to college is kinda that last step to manhood, and he needs to have his support structure close to vest so he can make this transition easier.

Anyway you look at it, I'm of the opinion you help the young man out. Don't give him anything, just help him. My concern lies with UT's perception and how his presence on the team affects the team. The new staff is laying the foundation right now so they should be careful as to how inviting this young man into the family will affect the rest of the family; very well could be detrimental, we shall see.

Forgive him somewhere else. This is beyond acceptable to me. If your gut tells you its wrong it probably is.

Why in the hell can anyone honestly sit there, read that and have their stomach turn and say its ok. I dont know what makes me more sick, the thought of him coming to UT or the posts of "he better be good" or "how good is he?"

Ridiculous.

Those are some big stones you are tossing around. You got a clean background to back that up??

Amazing, you are stereotyping a whole city now based on what he did?? That is ridiculous right there.

No, it was a prank (go read the facts closely). It was a prank that got out of hand and turned into a crime.

Of course they said it was a prank!! Do you think they would say " Yea, we were intending on raping and sodomizing this young girl". No defense lawyer in his/her right mind would allow their clients to admit, other than unintentional harm, to the victim.

The facts were not written by his lawyer. They were written by the court after interviewing all the witnesses, including the victim. It was a prank that got out of hand.

If you don't believe in second chances man you don't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

this is the problem i have with the world. ppl mess up and for the rest of their lives after theyve paid the price its held of their heads. the paid their debt to society. so why do we keep those ppl from havin opportunities to chase dreams and get jobs. :shakehead:
wrong is wrong. u cant put value to a wrong. they all equal the same thing. The guy probably faces enough ridicule without our judgement being passed. All of us have sinned and Jesus allowed us to have a second chance in life. The same is for MR. Hood.

As for the " What would Jesus do" And " Forgive" maybe you should read your bible.

"But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die. 26"But you shall do nothing to the girl; there is no sin in the girl worthy of death, for just as a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, so is this case. Deut. 22, 26

One to judge huh, must be nice living in your perfect world.

You dont think they talked to a lawyer after being charged or prior to them being interviewed about the facts in the case

Here is my deal. He was a minor when he commited the crime. I'm completely wrong to say that there is no consequences for what he did. However it's not our job to give and hand out punishments. The only thing we can do is what Jesus did and give everyone a clean slate. and if he screws up on campus. Then he should face the consequences. However, he would be one of our own and we should try to help him out and get his life going on the right path. You don't just forgive and then crucify him if he screws up. I'm a christian and I sin every day, just as all other christians do. Yet, (christian means christ like) and we need to do what he did and forgive.

What about the kids who are in gangs that kill people that are never tried and yet come out of that and learn from their mistakes and never do it again. Should we give those guys a second chance??

Never had any legal problems not even a speeding ticket, and I have enforced the law for over 10 years. I have seen enough faces of victims of things like this that I will not just forgive someone that easily. You can sit behind your desks and talk about forgiveness but when you have seen this over and over first hand and what it does to people it wouldnt be so easy.

You can keep preaching forgiveness in here all you want, I am a Christian, probably spend more time in church than most of you going off on the Jesus tangent. God can forgive him but right now I dont feel like this kid needs to be a part of this University, period.

My letter is already in to Mike Hamilton and I am sure there will be plenty more. I am done with this its a losing battle some of you are just too high and mighty in your perfect worlds to see the problem this is.

If you don't believe in second chances man you don't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The things Jesus did allowed our souls to be washed clean as we stand at the Judgement seat.

I can very easily believe in our Savior and not believe someone should have the privilege of representing the University of Tennessee.

head1. Dude your crazy. flatt out crazy. I'm not in my high and mighty world. I'm sixteen and I love the lord. However, you just said your a christian (christ like) but say your not going to forgive. You may need a gut check somewhere. Sometimes it can be hard. Like if someone murdered one of my family members I would hate to forgive them. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be the right thing to do.

If it were my daughter, Hood and the other kid wouldn't have had the chance to make it to court to begin with. Not in any sort of reasonable condition anyway.
