Yeah, I read that and its admirable I don't fault this line of thinking but more mature heads need to prevail, I really doubt this isn't going to effect the victim.
No it can't. I'm not judging anybody. I don't know any of them. I'm not gonna act like I know what's "in the best interest of all parties".
What I do know is that I don't believe a man's life shouldn't be forever affected by an unintelligent mistake that he made when he was thirteen years of age.
Sure it can, because you are judging me for the exact same reason you are criticizing me for. You do not know anymore info on this than what you have read on the internet how can you be so adamant about a situation you know nothing about?
Sorry you cannot accept that we both read the same thing and came to a different conclusion.

Wouldn't it help to know the victim better than she knows herself before passing that judgment?
Don't you trust Kiffin, MH, and the UT administrators to have considered the victim's interests? I mean, wouldn't that be the likely catalyst for the letter the victim wrote on his behalf?
Daniel and the victim have known one another for quite a while (perhaps their entire lifes), both before and after the incident. There is a lot we don't know that knowledgeable others have investigated on behalf of the university. Kiffin said the decision was not taken lightly and all evidence points to a thorough and deliberate consideration prior to the scholarship offer.
It would be great it the victim was okay with this, but I doubt it, many victims go in front of peers, family members etc... and put on a tough face and then when they are alone have other feelings.
Knowing the full situation would be better, which I trust the admin does. Hell, she could write the letter to get him to go to UT so she can go elsewhere. Hopefully we will never know since that would mean the victim will have been exposed to the press which is what concerns me.
"I'd say the low point was Wednesday, August 15, 2003. I was sitting at, I'd actually gotten arrested at school in eighth grade," said Hood, tears welling in his eyes and a half-empty water bottle an improbable steadying force clutched in his hands. "They took me out of the principal's office in handcuffs into the car, and I could look through the windows on both sides and see people glaring out the window at me. So then getting into the car and thinking about all your friends, how many friends you would lose, the emotions of that, was horrible. Then getting to the detention center and talking to my dad on the phone. As a 13-year-old, my dad was the greatest person in the world and still is to me. You just kind of feel insignificant to him.
"And then talking to my cousin afterwards, I called her the next day, and hearing the pain in her voice then. The conversation with her, I was apologizing for what had happened and I said, 'You know I love you. You're family.' And I remember her last words to me were, 'Well, evidently last night you weren't family to me.' And she hung up the phone. Hearing that at 13 years old and she's grown up like a sister to me, it was tough. It tore me apart. That period over about three days, it was awful."
One has to wonder if she is as weak as you make her out to be??
This may be the best story John Brice has ever wrote...

I never said she is weak, sounds to me the exact opposite.
You guys need to understand some people are going to have differing views, you may not like it but I don't like that you think he should play for UT. If you think I am being clueless or this somehow is an argument that can be lost why are you trying so hard, would you be if this guy was going to be playing for the rugby team?

If he represents UT with class and dignity and doesn't get in trouble, then sure he belongs here. If he's coming just to booze it with the boys and play football on Saturday's, then don't let him in. Sounds like the kid has gotten over the hump as far as his past goes. The kid has been a model citizen since then. Also, you have to love the fact that most believe once a criminal, always a criminal. Most criminals are bad in their mind, so therefore they don't change. The one's that understand they are responsible for their actions and they need to make better one's than what landed them in jail, they are the one's that become productive and trustworthy again. I think Daniel has earned the right by doing what has been asked of him to prove his doubters wrong. He seems exactly like the kind of kid I want playing for the University of Tennessee.
