Do you disagree because he witnessed/committed a crime?? Do you also believe that criminals can never truly "Pay" their debt to society??
The bottom line is the coaches were privy to all the details and obviously did their homework on the kid and came to a decision along with the AD, and the academic administration to give this guy a scholarship.
If you think you are smart enough to examine the situation and come to a different conclusion than they did, then don't act surprised that so many of us find it a ridiculous position to take. All this crap about if he wasn't a good football player, if it was your daughter, and blah blah blah is irrelevant. The kid has had nothing short of a sterling reputation in the 6 years since this incident.

This isn't a parking ticket. Giving someone a second chance and giving someone the golden ticket are two different things.
It has become clear that many here prefer W's over class and morals.
To each his own.

Perhaps you shouldn't make that assumption so hastily. Many of us have children of our own and work every day to instill morals and values into them. I would hope that if your child found themselves in a situation that they didn't know how best to handle and made a mistake you would be as forgiving as everyone in this case has.
We aren't talking about a rapist here. We are talking about a 13 year-old kid that had probably never been exposed to sex before who found himself in a situation that he didn't know how to handle.

I believe most people can pay for their crimes. I do believe Hoods situation has been handled badly by his family, lawyer and the courts. Hood needs to be sat down and told that life is not fair and that his choice to come to UT will not come true lets see if he is a shining example after that.
Some people just like to (or would like to) interject thier influence upon others in personal matters while hiding behind the facade of thier own morality.
