As a 13-year-old Boy Scout, Phil Knight worked as an usher at Portland's Multnomah Stadium -- now known as PGE Park -- and watched his first University of Oregon football game.
The Ducks lost, 63-0, to the University of Washington.
Knight's destiny was not deterred, in part, because his father, UO alum William H. Knight, pointed the Cleveland High School track star toward the university. And legendary track coach Bill Bowerman provided the magnetic pull.
Five decades later, Knight is basking in the reflected glory of the 12-0 Ducks football team -- headed to its first national championship game, ever, thanks in some measure to the lavish facilities Knight has helped provide.
That's the one. I didn't say that they were world-beaters on defense.
They have a new D Coordinator and were caught off guard by a better than expected Nevada, in Nevada.
It seemed pretty apparent to me that Kelly, on Saturday, knew that we could win without running crazy with DT. I agree. It'll be balls out on Jan. 10th. Nothing will be held back.
I assume you're under the impression they were also caught off guard when USC put 42 on em in two quarters? :ermm:
actually i think the ds are pretty similar in that they both have elite dlines and good tacklers in the secondary. of course there is a rather big difference between cal and auburns offense.

Thanks for your "help", Mr. "Nobody can hang with Alabama anywhere."
I'm sure that many are flocking to you for your incredible insight and accuracy in estimating football. You get your information from the back of a Phil Steele Wheaties box.
Not at all. I just like to talk football when I can.
Thank you for confirming my point. Your insight comes from trying to figure out what "everyone's pick" is. That's fine by itself. But, you actually think that regurgitating this "insight" and insulting people who disagree with it is "help."
I didn't know that Alabama was teh #1 ranked team in the nation at that time? Yes, I did.
Na, you need all the help you can get. Definitely.
You also thought they couldn't be beat by anyone. Others had a differing position that proved to be correct. They knew better than you.
Your "help" turned out to be a joke.
Well. You do help to provide laughs.
