1 Oregon vs. California

Right now in the "Around the NCAA" Forum there are 3 Oregon threads. In which there are maybe 4 Duck fans posting. There are also 5 Auburn threads and 2 Boise State threads.

It's an "Around the NCAA" Forum on the site. Oregon right now, whether you like it or not, is in fact ranked #1 in all the polls and 10-0, which means that if your talking college football... there is going to be a lot of attention given to them no matter who you are with and where you are. That's how it works in CFB, year in and year out.

If those 3 Oregon threads are so annoying to you then simply click on another one of the approximately 50 or so threads... or go to the UT Football Forum where there are none. Heads up though... since we're in an Around the NCAA Forum alot of them don't discuss UT Football and may, horrifyingly enough, have fans from other schools in them.

I like college football. So I talk about it. UT, Oregon, Auburn, Boise, Pac-10, SEC, Big-10, Big-12, etc., etc.

Who's the one who starts all the convos about Oregon? You guys. How many UT fans are starting threads or talking about UT on the Oregon sites? Oh wait, you wouldn't know you are too busy here on VolNation.

Like someone said earlier, maybe you don't give the hospitality of Vol fans enough credit.

But on second thought, maybe you shouldn't.

I don't know about greatest in history. But, they did play Oregon better than any other opponent this season. Better than Stanford and USC did. Should mean something.

yes it means that the team has been massively underperforming all year.

personally i saw a block in the back during the oregon punt return TD, but that might be my homerism.

Arky got royally screwed against barn too. Royally.

Fair enough. I'm not sure they would have won or that LSU would have won last year. Worst replay gaffe I can think off has to be the Oregon/OU onside kick. The ball didn't go 10 yards and Oregon didn't even recover it, but they somehow got it. And didn't the officials get the call correct on the field? How the hell did they overturn that?

Who in the hell is in these replay booths? I would think that these conferences find it embarrassing.

So you stick around to talk about the Ducks because of the Vol fans? Ok.

It's a good forum with good fans.

And yeah I'm talking about the Ducks because a) they played the Vols this year and will do so again in a few years, and b) it's the section that is NOT about Vol football. Would you prefer I talk about Wiscy scoring 83 points, or WSU beating Oregon St? Notre Dame beating Utah?

I'm sure the administrators don't mind the traffic.

I don't see the protection of top teams in the pac-10 like I do with the SEC, but it definitely has the worst officials of any major conference.

generally speaking the officials strongly favor the home team. the fact that the calls were somewhat equally bad (i thought cal deserved a lot more PIs than they got) probably does speak to some oregon #1 adjustments.

two things do bother me about the officiating for oregon in general

1) the officials rush to get the ball set and to get the first down line moved for oregon. why should the officials adjust they way they do things for oregon? why give them the advantage? what if i want the officials to milk the clock shouldn't i get the same consideration?

2) oregon olineman consistantly get up in the middle of their stance (usually to look at the sideline) and oregon players regurally move forward before the snap when in motiion. how is this not a false start?

So basically you don't know if Chip is talking about teams he's played this year or two years ago right?

My impression is that he was talking about both. But, I suppose that you could theorize that the only teams that tried a scheme that works well against Oregon tried it last year.

Let's examine your theory for a moment: Please describe what Cal was doing schematically that other teams have not this season.

And if you can find me saying at any given time that Oregon isn't any good, I'll shut the hell up right now.

What is your point then, regarding Oregon's performance against Cal?

yes it means that the team has been massively underperforming all year.

They have a new DC with players he didn't recruit and are adopting a new system. I would expect some inconsistency there.

I would agree that change is probably needed on the offensive side.

lol. What a bunch of sour grapes.

WRers dropped a lot of balls too.

So did Oregon's. Thomas wasn't as on target as he had been either.

personally i saw a block in the back during the oregon punt return TD, but that might be my homerism.

I think so. I saw what you are referring to. It's not a block in the back if the contact is resulting from the defender turning their back to the blocker and drifting into them.

I think they should have had fewer. Watching the replay, that PI call against Harris was wrong. Though, I can see how it was a tough call for the refs to get right.

cal ran a 3-3-5. no other team did that.

the team flat out didnt' show up defensively against oregon state, usc, and nevada. didn't show up offensively against OSU or USC too. that speaks to the head coach and his ability to motivate IMO.

i'm sure some sour grapes exists. but you are in serious denial if you don't think your fanbase has the worst reputation in the pac-10

he wasn't pushed into it. it looked like a block in teh back to me.

must have misunderstood me. i'm saying cal commited PI a bunch of times against oregon receivers and it didn't get called.

Because the rules allow for a team to go up to the line and snap the ball during a specific time-frame. It is the officials job to allow teams to play within the rules.

It doesn't favor Oregon at all. Any other team could do the same thing and the officials would do the same.

On that subject, what do you think of Tedford having his players fake injuries? A good lesson to teach college kids? Cheat if the rules aren't designed to stop it!

2) oregon olineman consistantly get up in the middle of their stance (usually to look at the sideline) and oregon players regurally move forward before the snap when in motiion. how is this not a false start?

If the players are not set yet, they can make movements at the line of scrimmage as long as they are not intended to simulate starting a play.

You see this type of thing often from college to NFL in hurry up and huddle systems where linemen point to defenders, etc. while at the line, before the QB signals to set.

According to Kelly, lots of teams have run that against them and failed.

USC and Nevada are good offensive teams. New defense. I think it's understandable. He should get at least some redemption points for stopping the #1 offense.

Similar to how USC had the worst reputation when they were leading the conference and Washington years before that. People tend to not like the fans of teams that beat them.

The thing is, I hear about people making these bad fan claims. But, I go to a lot of games and never see anything like they describe. The Oregon fans aren't acting any different than the other fans. At USC, we were heckled left and right by USC fans (and even a few random Boise State fans that were there). That happens at football games.

he wasn't pushed into it. it looked like a block in teh back to me.

No. He wasn't pushed into him. But, he was drifting into him with his back turned. A blocker doesn't have to get out of the way if a defender drifts into them, back turned or not. Otherwise, we would have a bunch of dudes running backwards down the field.

must have misunderstood me. i'm saying cal commited PI a bunch of times against oregon receivers and it didn't get called.

My apologies. I remember one that could have gone either way. But, I didn't see a lot of PI against Oregon, to be honest.

I don't think the conferences give a damn how embarassing these blatantly fixed games are as long as their conference wins a national championship and (more importantly) the cash that comes along with it.
