his film actually looks pretty good...physical LB with some pretty nice hits and fighting through blocks..if he has the intensity and work ethic of his uncle then it is someone worth a shot..always good to have a fighter
someone made a comment about this is a big east or Big Ten LB..umm so there have never been any good LBs from those leagues? There are plenty of LBs in Big Ten I wouldve take from the past and present.
Previous La Tech recruit. Not real excited about this if its a favor. But I will support CDD if he thinks he has to have this kid..:dunno:
I have no problem with you stating your opinion. You could be right. But do you have to restate your opinion every time you post? We get it. You do not like Crump or Propst. Move on to another thread, discuss that we are obviously going to a 3-4 b/c of all the linebackers we are getting or which dc coaches the 3-4 that we could potentially be getting. The main thing is MOVE ON FROM THIS THREAD!
I think CDD is in on some really good guys, I just dont think Probst and Crump are included in those. JMO
I know, I'm not a coach or a talent evaluater, whatever, I think these are 2 La Tech-UAB type prospects and will have to really overachieve to justify their scholarships... IMO
Crump 4 Heisman.....
Nothing wrong with 3 stars. Lots of good football teams full of them. We need a middle linebacker type. Most of the others look like OLB
I can't decide if this is good news or bad.
Propst has already hit his ceiling as a football player. He's a smart kid but he won't ever start in the SEC.
Sorry but I won't buy that. You seem to be saying that UT's S&C program can't develop this kid...
I have no idea whether he'll ever play or not but am about 99.99% certain he hasn't "hit his ceiling as a football player".
You guys whiffed completely on your Big 10 LB discussion. NOTE TO THOSE NOT BLIND: All NFL LB's can run. The Big 10 puts a bunch of them into the NFL. Guys like Hawk also play with great intelligence and instinct. Like speed, those aren't things you can really teach. You can make a guy a little faster with a good S&C program. You can educate a guy so he plays smarter... but everyone has their natural limits.
Not saying this is the guy... but give me a LB with great vision, instincts, and intelligence any day over another one with a forty time that's .1 secs faster.
Please, please tell me you're kidding. Hoover High is a great HS football program. Getting a foot in that door is huge.
The kid is obviously very intelligent. He has size and decent speed. Being a AL kid, Thompson has probably known him for at least 2 or 3 years. I'm more than willing to see what they can do with him.
Yep. The Big 10 isn't as slow as you think. They aren't as fast as the SEC but you are overplaying that perception.Whiffed ehhh? I believe the point of discussion drove around the fact that the Big 10's league as a whole (not the few exceptions like Hawk) is VERY slow and does not even remotely compare to that of the SEC. I could honestly care less about how many lb's they send to the league.
My point was and still is that in order for us to compete against and become of the SEC elite again we must improve our overall team speed along the front 7. Getting TYPICAL Big 10 players without having many bodies on the defensive line leads to results like our bowl game!
Yep. The Big 10 isn't as slow as you think. They aren't as fast as the SEC but you are overplaying that perception.
Auburn with SEC speed was taken to OT by lowly NW. Not only is NW a Big 10 school... they're almost like the Vandy of the Big 10. Their academic standards are higher than Stanford and ND IIRC.
PSU was "fast enough" to beat LSU and hold their O to 243 yards. I think the only SEC team that held them to less was UF.
tOSU was fast enough to beat an Oregon team built on speed.
Iowa beat GT... a team with SEC like speed.
What UT needs to get back to the top is defenders who get where they need to be when they need to be there and then make plays. If they get there just because they're fast, fine. If they get there because they're smart and can read plays quickly, fine. But if speed were the final factor, we could just have them line up before the game and award the trophy to the team with the lowest avg 40 time.
Rationalize away... and you're still wrong.Auburn's DC is Ted Roof. Enough said. Everyone was putting up 20+ on them.
GT got behind and we all know what happens when you're behind and run the triple option.
The LSU game was played on a soggy field; hence, the speed advantage was negated.
OSU...when was the last time they beat an SEC team again...I'll wait.
No. What I'm saying is a smart player will make reads and anticipate plays so that he gets there faster even though he runs a 4.65 rather than a 4.5. Based on your argument, Big 10 teams shouldn't even stay on the field with SEC teams... and they do.I'm not implying speed is the only or most important factor attributed to a team or person's success; however, if you think we're going to beat Florida or Alabama just by being lied up right and wanting to win that's a little far fetched.
Hard work beats talent when talent DOESN'T work.
FWIW, WVU emphasizes speed on D about as much as anyone in CFB.
You present some valid points. All I'm saying is I've seen this kid play on numerous times and he doesn't have one skill that is above average.
FWIW, his old coach and defensive coordinator at Hoover ,Jeremy Pruitt, is now the LB coach at Alabama and he didn't think enough to even recruit the guy.
As always GBO.
Sal Sunseri is Alabama's LB coach.
