'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

Just got through watching that, TJ. Seems to me like he pushes the ball. Puts a lot of zip on it -- even on the short throws. You can break a receiver's hand that way. Stands tall in the pocket and delivers. I think he benefited from working with the staff today. If this is a guy the coaches want, I'm behind them.

He has a cannon. Sounds like he looked pretty good today as well. Did we offer?

This kid is a vol if offered....Casey Clausen is in his ear a bit....Clausen is his QB coach out in Cali.

"I'm not stuck on any one college or anything, but I like Tennessee a lot," he said. "They're definitely in my top, if not my top school, that I like. I'm waiting to see what happens (in terms of offers) and let it take care of itself."

Also of note, he's been working with Casey Clausen, and he will be an early enrollee.

More quotes from Rettig in the new Rivals article:

Casey Clausen is a great guy. He helps quarterback coach me with Steve Clarkson back in California. He's helped me a lot with mechanics, with everything. Me and him have always talked about Tennessee and what a great place it is. What a great program it is. Coaches. I checked it out and I loved it.

I'm graduating in the fall. The process is going to be a little faster, but I plan on making (a decision) either before the season or a couple of games in. As soon as I know where I want to go.

My new 2010 QB board:
Heaps
Scroggins
Rettig
Hendrix
Lamaison
Rees
Brunetti

I have Rettig above Hendrix because I think they have similar upside but Rettig is a mid-termer and Hendrix is not (I think). I feel like we'll get at least one of these but with this coaching staff I almost expect two.

By readiness to start in 2010: Heaps, Lamaison, Rettig, Scroggins, Hendrix, Brunetti, Rees

By upside: Scroggins, Hendrix, Rettig, Heaps, Rees, Lamaison, Brunetti

It would be nice to get one of the first three from each of the last two lists.

I say get him...he seems to be the most realistic option we have this year as far as interest and game ready. Him graduating this fall is a huge plus, and having spring to get ready he could push for pt next fall. I think he fits the mold perfectly and you dont find rocket arms that often. Im sold on him or Scroggins. I say leave the rest alone except for that JUCO guy who is hopefully headed this way. JMO

Lamaison is in the 2009 class technically so he shouldn't make that list. My list is very similar. I'd like to see more film on Rettig or at least wait and see if the coaches thought enough of him to offer, but in my mind he's right up there with Hendrix.

I do believe you are confusing him with Nick Montana. With Kiffin and Coach O's California connections there are going to be a lot of players from that state coming this way...

And what Rettig hasn't gleaned from first-hand experience he's picked up from a former Volunteers record-holder: Casey Clausen.

"(Clausen) is a great guy. He helps quarterback coach me with Steve Clarkson back in California," said the 6-foot-3-inch, 205-pound Rettig. "He's helped me a lot with mechanics, with everything. Me and him have always talked about Tennessee and what a great place it is.

Hes coached by Clausen and Clarkson. We never said he was the high school coach. We just said Clausen was coaching him.

That's fine...if he's getting some side instruction from those guys, I just hadn't seen anything yet on it...but my original post still didn't deserve the rude responses received. If you want me to be civil, then try to be civil yourselves. It works both ways.

In fact...as I said, I don't need to be wasting anymore time with petty crap like this. I was just trying to get some updates. Screw it...I'm done with this site...not worth the harrassment. Just have to rely on GVX for team updates.

GVX is way too troll infested at the moment. Just move on from this and enjoy what is the best recruiting site I have ever visited.

Guys, please stay on topic and watch the personal attacks. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

Rettig showed up for the afternoon session and instantly became the quarterback with the most tools. He has a very strong arm, is fluid in his drops, has a sound and quick release and he gets good spin on the ball. He was inconsistent at times and would have benefitted from the morning session but coming off the street cold and into drills and one-on-ones, he was impressive. He doesn't have any offers yet but it's only a matter of time.

Rettig is my my favorite QB prospect that is left now. IMO he has way more upside than Hendrix and Scroggins. Rettig would fit our system perfectly, and he wants to play here, why havent we thrown him an offer again ?
