'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

When does he plan on announcing? Are we now going to have to wait past july 25th to possibly have a QB?

he said he wants to commit fairly quickly, but not rush it because he wants to be 100% sure because hes not decommiting down the road

I don't hardly ever post to the recruiting threads, so maybe this was talked about, but does anyone here know if this guy prefers BC over us, or was he just saying that stuff about committing to BC because we hadn't offered yet? Is BC really a contender for his services?

My guess is he was just saying that, or was just getting a little impatient because of his lack of offers. I would be surprised if he still commits to BC after getting the UT offer. Besides, as sad as it is, even BC has a lot of depth at QB compared to us. They signed two QBs in '07, two in '08, one in '09 and already one for '10.

with Rettig tearing up these combines, getting an invite to the UA all american game, and also having a BC/TN offer I would assume he moves into the top 15 Pro-styler QB category and is a high 3 star low 4 star on rivals....jmo

insignificant, but you are probably right.

No completely significant. It is politics and we need WRs and OLmen and RBs to believe the guy is good. It may be we take another guy and he beats out Rettig int he end but for now perception is a major part of this game.

yeah we can downgrade all we want the significance of stars..but recruits pay attention to where other highly touted guys are going

Funny how everyone is now on the Rettig bandwagon.

We didn't want Scroggins anyway :)

I've liked this guys attitude since he came to our camp and made sure the coaches saw him.

hey i am behind the QB that wants to be a vol.....so what if he was our 5th or 6th choice

It's significant in the sense that it is helpful to have a well-regarded QB signed when trying to attract other commits from athletes. But know what you mean.

exactly

insignificant to us, but maybe not to high school age kids looking to sign with a "big name" QB

I'm with you two on this...

I wanted/still want Scroggins...but there's something about a guy who wants to be here vs. a guy who's wavering between 3 schools that has me leaning to Rettig now...even if he is rated lower

any chance he gets a top 10 pro-style jump?

Not unless he plays well in season. If he blows up with good numbers he could jump Scroggins. He has a much better arm. But then again if he has average numbers he will be a 5.5 or 5.6 rated guy. IMO

maybe, just maybe...The staff feels confident that Jesse will commit, and they have decided to lock-down Rettig before Scroggins commits because Rettig has sounded like he's ready to commit and will not decommit when it's said and done. Thus we got Scroggins and an ideal number 2. Of course this is absurd because Rettig would quickly back out of his verbal to commit to USC regardless of what he said.

Anyways, can't wait until Eric Berry's little brother meets Jesse across the middle five years from now when Jesse's a fifth year senior.

if we are playing USC five years from now, then whatever QB we get will have done his job.

so i do hope we face scoggins at USC. but i wouldnt root for him to get hurt. i will still like him a little bit and hope he does well.
