Wouldn't exactly trust GVX with staying up to the minute with breaking news. It's been pushed back unless Jesse himself is incorrect.

I wouldn't call it breaking news though. People on here were saying that it was pushed back to thursday like five days ago. I would think they'd catch up to date in five days. Maybe not. Idk.

Just saw scroggins myspace and it says the following:
jus bcuz it says im goin some place...not even a chance it means its true...jus stay tunned..announcing thursday at noon...it changed... 3 eastern 12 pacific on

Its tommorrow at 3 pm ET. And its likely USC. Hope we pull the upset though.
This will not make or break us. We fans are giving this way more attention that it deserves. Must be summer bordum..

It might be a plus that a backup made it to the NFL, but I don't think the recruits will love it. Hey come to USC where you can sit on the bench and make the NFL. Not the best recruiting strategy IMO. Pete is telling him he has different skills than Barkley and he can come in and compete(BS).

I dont mean that they literally use that as a recruiting pitch. But it kind of makes it almost a school where you can do no wrong at quarterback (well unless you do something really stupid that gets you kicked off the team or out of the school).

It's kinda almost like the draw of some of the more competitive students to go to the top ranked med school - which i think are like harvard, penn, and washington univ. in st. louis right now. Sure, there are obviously going to be better doctors than you b/c the numbers are against you and how good you are is based on how you do not where you went. Still, you're going to get a serious look by employers though b/c of that place's history of success in that field and that they don't just take/recruit anyone

Let's just say that Barkley does win the starting job and that he signs Scroggins. Well then Pete feels sorry for Lane, so he sends us Corp as a consolation. Releases him completely and he transfers to UT and starts in 2010!

So is he announcing today or tomorrow? First it was the 25th. Then it was today. Then it was tomorrow. Yesterday I was hearing on here that he is announcing thursday but a GVX article posted today says it's today. "Jesse Scroggins, who is expected to announce his college choice today." It's in the Kiffin intends to call on himself article. Anyways, just wondering which it is.

Maybe he is going to be an engineering major and is practicing iteration....

Can somebody tell me what his myspace says for the 1,000th time?..I didn't quite understand it the first 999 times.

I'm not sure that is the case. It might be a situation where his dad is simply telling Jesse how it is, that he can't see him play if he went to Tennessee and Jesse may be taking that into his own decision. It doesn't mean that his dad won't let him go to Tennessee. I respect the fact that he has a good relationship with his father and maybe he, as a son, wants to stay at USC so that his dad can attend games.

Well, go to USC and your father can attend the games while you sit on the bench or go to UT and your father can watch you play every week on TV. If it were me I'd invest in a dish and go east my son.

Is 4 the sum of the QB depth chart between Palmer and Cassel? I don't think so. They've had several pine riders who didn't make it to the NFL.

And as far as odds go, if anyone has a list of QB's who signed with USC, rode the planks, and never got drafted it would prove that being on USC's bench does not lead one to the NFL.

My guess is USC has already proven that Cassel is 1 in 100 for going from the SC bench to the NFL.

I agree that the annoucement by a kid going who's choosing to sit on the USC bench for the next 3 or 4 years is not important enough to be on ESPN live. It's not like he's the QB who will be bringing a traditonal powerhouse back to fame. Just another SC QB... ho hum...

Maybe, but cassel is the recent thing so it's still fresh on everyone's minds. So Cal's the school where the pro scouts give you a serious look on draft day simply b/c you went to USC and it produces good qbs

I think his mom was a UT cheerleader wasnt she?

I heard his grandparents have property in Jefferson County. FWIW.

Yeah I understand what you are saying. You would think the majority of recruits though would know having a legitimate chance to start 4 years at an sec school(at the very worst 3) is a better route to the nfl than being a backup at USC. If he chooses USC I will understand, but if its about the NFL then I think its a no brainer to choose UT.

NFL QBs are from all sorts of places. No one is even close to having a monopoly on that position.

Cassel is an exception to a rule. The rule is you must play in college football to get drafted by the NFL. It doesn't matter how many times you give Cassel as an example, it doesn't change the fact that far, far, far more SC pine riders never saw the light of day in the League.

Your argument that whatever happened most recently is predictive of what will happen next is analogous to betting on the horse with the worst odds in next year's Kentucky Derby since Mine that Bird won last year.

Bet away... but don't confuse the odds. They are squarely against pine riders making it in the League. If they weren't the Matt Cassel story wouldn't be discussed.

I see what you did there.

No matter where he goes, we won't stop recuiting him until his name has been inked on signing day.

'X' told me he's hearing that he's all over the place. He also says he's over the drama in late July because he's not completely worth all the hype. 'X' does say it seems interesting that if you look at it if he were really going to USC, he would have committed a couple of weeks ago. And the truth is that if he goes to USC, he'll NEVER play there. If he goes to UT, he's the starter a couple of games into next season.

I will say this. One source tells me he thinks he may commit to UT in the next day or so but he may not end up here. His family does have serious financial constraints. Still a quick commit from him would really help the class.

'X' says Stone, Ambles and Matt Milton a 6-5 Wr out of Ill. would almost immediately commit if JS pulls the trigger for the Vols.

I has that thought the other day. I did not consider it PC sending us a consolation prize though. I think it is highly unlikely. He is a RS Sophomore. He will no doubt playing at some point this season unless he has a season ending injury before it starts. Even with a release, he would still have to sit out a year (the release would only mean that UT or another school could give him a scholarship). That would leave him one year to play elsewhere. If he did transfer, I am sure that we would have a good shot because of his familiarity of the system. I would doubt this happens though.

... but don't confuse the odds

Here are the odds-

In the last six years Tennessee has put one QB in the NFL making league minimum. In that same amount of time USC has put 4 QBs in the NFL who have signed contracts for $50+million each. And, to add insult to injury, USC's latest $50 million QB is probably going to put Tenn's one QB in the unemployment line.

Noone has ever got anything bad from secondary violations correct? Just looks bad on the school?

As long as the schools are the ones reporting them, it's usually fine unless an absolutely crazy number come up (i'm thinking 30s or higher).

Now if the NCAA is the one finding all of them and the school's not reporting/hiding them, I think some sort of punishment might be able to come of that
