Everyone finally realizing/coming to grips with the *likely* fact that he isn't coming to UT is a little funny, but a lot sad. We need to be ready for a lot of disappointments and hopefully a lot of nice surprises over the next few years. Starting completely over, as we have done, is hardly ever easy. The chances of Kiffin pulling off what Saban did in a small time frame are slim to none and I am betting on none.
I liked our chances with JS for about 4 days between our camp and the USC camp. Since the USC camp, I have put us at third for his services. My head has always said wince then that he will pick USC, but something keeps nagging me that UF is in it more than any reasonable person would give them credit for. So, I've voted by gut and picked UF all along. But, USC is the obvious choice for him. It's obvious that these kids don't see riding the pine at USC as being all that bad, and he will have a chance to compete. UT was 5-7 last year, we are seriously lacking for talent at some key positions, and the new staff is completely unproven (as far as their actions together, I don't mean to undermine their individual accomplishments).
I think that good to great things will still come from this class, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they get a QB somehow...probably through a switched commitment. Heck, JS may shock me later on today and pick UT...it's certainly possible.
We should all do ourselves a favor and temper our expectations about our ability to recruit this year. We're an almost bankrupt company who has hired a new CEO...the chances of us turning huge profits immediately are slim, but the prospects of near-term improvement look good.
