'10 CA QB Jesse Scroggins

Part of me wouldn't mind seeing Scroggins have a change of heart, but for the most part, I'd prefer he just stay right where he is and realize with every passing game how much heavier that clipboard seems to get at USC. :)

Sweet justice seeing him watch Barkley getting all the accolades and treated like a Rock Star while he gets more and more acquainted with the benches at USC. 3 long years hiding in the shadows...and watching 3 classes of highly rated QB's keep coming in. How sweet it is.

I think it's very telling of scroggins as a competitor that he is willing to sit on the bench and wait for years to play. If he is content with that, he doesn't have the mentality of a qb that I, personally, would like to see under center at UT. I also think it may raise a few questions about his confidence in his own abilities as a quarterback. Not saying he sucks or anything, but he may have some doubts about his ability to compete at this level.

What is so sweet about that? How is that justice? Just because he went to the school he truly wanted to go to instead of the school we wanted him to go to he should be punished? Let's say someone wants to come to UT 4 years from now as a QB but he is faced with the same situation that Scroggins faces at USC. So you going to be on here saying he shouldn't come to UT because of that? I doubt it.

I wish Scroggins nothing but luck at USC. It may not turn out the way he wants (who knows), but I feel like he did what he felt was right.

That's ridiculous. There is no logic in that at all.
Did John Brantley doubt his skills just because he chose to go to Florida with Tebow already there?

I LOLed at that too.

If anything it shows how confident he is in his ability. He clearly believes he can outplay whatever QB they may bring in down the road.

Nonsense...

Can we just forget about this guy....

Why? We still need a QB for next year inspite of the Bray committment.

Don't understand all the hate in here. We were salivating over the thought of him possibly coming to UT, but he chooses a college that is about 10mins away from him and now you start slamming him saying you don't want him? I'd be embarrassed if he actually saw this message board.

Probably so. i'm not saying either one won't turn out to be good quarterbacks, but if they really had the mentality to be good early they would likely have chosen a school where they at least had that opportunity. not to mention their long term future of possibly playing in the nfl. most qb's aren't going to make it into the nfl with one or two years of playing in college.

why? because he feels like he needs 3 yrs of practice to beat them?

So being first in line to start 3 years at USC is a bad choice? Is that what you're telling me?

I don't understand the hate, either. Seems petty and childish.

No, it may be the best choice for him. but the fact that he will wait 3 years to likely play 2 yrs(barring any injury) is telling of not only his competitive nature but possibly even his confidence. I honestly don't think bray would sign with a school where he didn't even have a chance to compete for the starting job his 2nd year.

That makes no sense.

BJ Coleman's actions would indicate that he is running from competition more than Scroggins is.

Most QB's going to top college's are in the same position. Are they all lacking competitive nature and confidence? There are top young prospects at LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame, etc. Tennessee is one of the few programs that a QB could come in and compete right away. It's not necessarily a positive in the QB's eyes.

Ok let's take this slowly shall we?

1. His proximity to USC. Like it or not, USC has their pick of instate prospects that's just how it is right now.

2. His parents wanting him to stay closer to home.

Flip this and lets say a great prospect from TN is in this exact situation. Either go across country, not knowing anyone except the coaching staff, at 18 or 19 years old, or stay home, get a decent education and be able to compete for QB at an elite program.

I know which one I'd choose.

Put yourself in his shoes for a moment.

What would Patrick Turner do?

I'm just saying why are we knocking on Scroggins competitive attitude when we don't know the situation besides his dad publicly saying he'd rather him stay home.

If my goal were to make it to the NFL, then I would go somewhere besides USC. Scroggins stands a reasonable chance of NEVER being the starting QB because USC recruits so well. Does he not realize that USC may sign the best QB in the country in the next two recruiting classes? If so, he may sit the bench the entire time. Matt Cassel (and UT's Pat Ryan for that matter) are the exception rather than the rule. You are much better off going to a school where you have a guaranteed chance to play several years, provided they have the pieces surrounding them including coaches. I'm not sure UT is that school, either. Will he beat out Tyler Bray? I'm not at all convinced of that. It is too hard to predict.

Please explain how Scroggins will get to start for 3 yrs? Barkley isn't the type that needs to drop out of school to jump to the NFL. Sanchez redshirted and graduated in 4....so he had every reason to move on.

Not the case with Barkley. Redshirt or not...it will be 3 long yrs before Scroggins will ever get to take a meaningful snap...and that's assuming he can beat out the other 3 that will be coming in during that time frame. It's as uphill a climb as it gets for a QB looking for playing time.

I really don't care where he chose to play...it's how he strung us out....mentioning in an interview that he gave Carroll a number of weeks advanced notice that he had his mind made up and was going to commit to USC.
He didn't tell Kiffin til weeks later....after it cost us a few prospects. For that stunt...I hope his @$$ is glued to the bench at USC the entire time. That's just me.

There's no reason he couldn't have told CLK as soon as he told Carroll...that way we could move on and get back in on guys like Rettig or Rees. Too late by the time he announced.

Contrast that with interviews from other recruits who have the character to call the coaches of the teams, to let them know they appreciate their efforts, but they decided on a different school. It's called being straight up.
They expect coaches to be straight up with them. Scroggins pulled a low down stunt...don't know what his motivation was, but he knew damn well that all the top QB prospects were just about off the board and time was a precious commodity for those prospects.
