I really don't care where he chose to play...it's how he strung us out....mentioning in an interview that he gave Carroll a number of weeks advanced notice that he had his mind made up and was going to commit to USC.
He didn't tell Kiffin til weeks later....after it cost us a few prospects. For that stunt...I hope his @$$ is glued to the bench at USC the entire time. That's just me.

You know this for a fact?

There's no reason he couldn't have told CLK as soon as he told Carroll...that way we could move on and get back in on guys like Rettig or Rees. Too late by the time he announced.

Again assuming he didn't tell Kiffin, most here on Volnation knew he wasn't coming here. You don't think the coaching staff at least had a 'feeling' he wasn't coming? I'll go out on a limb here and say they probably knew long before any of us..

Contrast that with interviews from other recruits who have the character to call the coaches of the teams, to let them know they appreciate their efforts, but they decided on a different school. It's called being straight up.
They expect coaches to be straight up with them. Scroggins pulled a low down stunt...don't know what his motivation was, but he knew damn well that all the top QB prospects were just about off the board and time was a precious commodity for those prospects.

Dude... Get off the kids case and get over it...

Yes....right after he announced, he was interviewed by an LA station and in the interview he stated that he notified Carroll 3 weeks prior. When asked when he told the UT staff he said "this week." During this timeframe, we lost Rettig and Rees.

I'm pretty sure the staff isn't guided by gut feelings. They still need to hear it from the recruits themselves. Plenty of times it appears to everyone that a recruit is leaning to a given team, only to have them surprise everybody.

Dude...I'll voice my opinion when and wherever I please, and I don't need your permission to do it....get over it.

Well said my friend! If he did say something bad about Tennessee as Sab and Jmva1 said, I don't want him to even visit here.
Go VOLS!

TENN, by all means voice your opinion. I in no way was suggesting you needed my permission. What I'm saying is this;
1. IMO, the second he got the USC offer he was going to commit there. Many on here knew that and if they/we knew it, the coaches knew it.
2. Again, IMO, This kid didn't cost us anything. The staff is in charge of recruiting. If anything their handling of it is what may or may not have cost us.
3. The bashing of these kids is uncalled for. Scroggins got an offer from his DREAM school 20 minutes down the road. We should be happy for him.

DUMB.... Elam supposedly said some bad things about us to... Do you want him to NOT visit now and if you were Coach Rote, would you turn him down if he wanted to commit????

Why do so many get so butt hurt over things these kids say and do?

he still should have called everyone else who was recruiting him the moment he knew he was going to USC. It's just what you do.

I agree totally. It's the honorable thing to do. However, when the offer from USC came, the hand writing was on the wall. Kiffin and Orgeron knew that. They have been doing this to long and are to good at it to let this kind of thing ruin there recruting efforts.

I'll be honest with you...like any other recruit we are after, if they don't come...fine. I may be disappointed, like anyone else, but I never get upset that over their choice...one way or the other.

Having said that, Scroggins knew his delay (while all the other top prospects were either already gone or just about gone) would hurt this program if he chose elsewhere. He delayed anyway...fine. But when he acknowledged the disparity in the amount of time he gave each staff, that told me ALL I need to know about the kid. It was some kind of game to him.

I realize some of you still don't care about that....but I do. If you intentionally or knowingly mess over this staff and program, I don't want anything to do with you. In fact, I hope your little game backfires on you. That's right where Jesse Who sits, from my vantage point.

Where has Jesse said anything to the effect of admitting that he told Carroll of his decision a good deal earlier than he told Kiffin? And I don't feel like we got screwed at all. I'd much rather have Bray than Rettig or Rees.

I just said in the previous post...he stated it in an interview with an LA news station.

I'm glad we were fortunate enough to turn someone...although I like Rettig as much as Bray. We dodged a bullet, IMHO...cause if Bray had an offer to UCLA or another major program in the PAC-10, we probably don't get him and we are staring down the barrel at yet another recruiting season fiasco at the QB position.

That's a possibility, but it would not be Scroggins fault.

If you want to search this thread...go ahead. It's there.
He announced July 25th I think it was...so a few days thereafter someone posted a link to the local CBS affiliate interview.

Just listened to it. He does not say that he called Carroll two weeks before Kiffin.

He does make disparaging and inaccurate remarks regarding his cousin. However, it sounds like the cousin wasn't being 100% honest with Jesse.

For those complaining about Scroggins not telling the UT staff, how is that any different from some of our "supposed" silent commits? Rumors have been posted in VN that James, among others, has been a silent to UT and is possibly holding off announcing until after the UA game. Should we also be upset with them since they essentially are doing the same thing to other schools?

I hope this doesnt make Bray 2nd guess if JS visits.

If Scroggins came to UT, it would not scare Bray one bit. Bray is probably hoping Scroggins comes, because he knows he can beat Scroggins out.

I like all these people that joined when Bray got on board. Good people.

Bray full well knows the strategy in regards to additional QBs. they are keeping him informed so he doesn't spook from wild internet chatter...

Please explain how Scroggins will get to start for 3 yrs? Barkley isn't the type that needs to drop out of school to jump to the NFL. Sanchez redshirted and graduated in 4....so he had every reason to move on.

Not the case with Barkley. Redshirt or not...it will be 3 long yrs before Scroggins will ever get to take a meaningful snap...and that's assuming he can beat out the other 3 that will be coming in during that time frame. It's as uphill a climb as it gets for a QB looking for playing time.

Name the last QB to start 4 years at USC.
Once you can do that, and tell me that the team with that player was on USC's current level, I'll believe you.

Until then, you've got a stud QB who will start 3 years at QB, then go to the NFL where he gets top 10 money guaranteed. He will get that money and will run with it. It's no different than why Eric Berry will go to the NFL this year.

Few, and I mean VERY few QBs start 4 years at a college. When that QB can get guaranteed money, he'll be gone.
Now, follow me on this one. I know it'll be tough, as I've laid it out many times and it's been over your head.
Barkley
2009 Freshman (starter)
2010 Sophomore (starter)
2011 Junior (starter) (draft-eligible)

Scroggins
2010 Freshman (redshirt)
2011 Freshman (backup)
2012 Sophomore (possible starter)

Does it make sense now?

I highly doubt JS comes here, if he comes to visit its only to see family members and have a good free trip. I do feel a little slighted by him but im sure he didnt intentionally hurt our recruiting thats a little crazy.

You're talking Apples and Oranges here. Name a single top-rated QB in this class that's still hanging out there?

QB's generally decide before the season starts. JS waited til about a week before fall camp began...that's last minute when you're talking about the upper echelon QB prospects. But more than that he knew we'd be screwed if he didn't choose us...this staff put other prospects in a waiting pattern...waiting on Scroggins. He knew that...and he knew they were growing tired of it and were committing elsewhere while he was dragging this whole thing out. It was a fun little game for him...getting all that attention. Well, he got his 15 secs of ESPN, and now he's going to be riding the bench for a full 3+ years...while watching Bray highlights on ESPN/SEC Network and CBS.

All the more reason why I really want to see Bray surprise everyone and come in next fall and tear it up Matt Barkley style! :)

He doesn't have to have ill-intent to knowingly cause harm...especially when it's totally unnecessary. He could've "silently" informed CLK that he was going with USC the same time he told CPC.

I don't care what his inner motivations were...his little stunt cost us some equally talented prospects, and he knew it. If he had been straight up with CLK, we could've moved on and still gotten Rettig or Rees.

I can't see CPC trying to stick it to CLK and ask JS to drag it out a bit longer. It could've been that letting CLK know in advance would cause us to move on and snag Rettig or another guy, and tip everyone off that he was a USC commit. He wanted his little ESPN time.
