The staff's push to get him in here as early as possible and to get these extra 5 or 6 practices are for a clear reason. I don't think they would've pushed to get him in here if they knew they were going to redshirt him.
I doubt even the staff has a good idea who will come out of spring practice with the lead. Seems to me that CLK wants to give Bray every conceivable chance to impress and come away with the job. He has the most talent of the bunch and I think he's hoping Bray is up to the challenge...after all, it's his very first HS prodigy.

Larry, under normal circumstances, I'd have to agree with you...but this isn't one of those times. Even though Crompton struggled terribly the first 4 games, CLK never even gave Stephens a whiff. When he got some playing time against Memphis, I believe it was, he screwed up the first drive (can't remember if it was a pick or just an errant throw) and the look CLK gave him when he came off the field wasn't the normal scolding type. It was the "Why do I even bother with this kid?"...variety.IF, Bray is the best we have the staff will go with Bray BUT they absolutely do NOT want to go into next season with a true freshman at quarterback. Would make thier job 100 times harder.
They want him learning as much as he can as fast as he can so MAYBE he can be ready to help in 2011 if needed.
The thinking from the staff back in the summer was that there was likely only one high school quarterback capable of leading an SEC team before 2012 and we did not get that one. Have they changed their minds after another high school season? I have not heard. The way they pursued Junior College quarterbacks this fall I tend to think they still feel that way.
Certainly thinking that and what transpires after kids get to campus can change. Lot of things cannot be assessed until kids arrive on campus (work ethic, capability to learn quickly, retention, leadership qualities, comprehension, etc. etc.)
We will all see what happens but I will be very surprised if Bray does anything but redshirt..
I think way too many posters among VN are dismissing Simms out of hand way too quickly. A true freshman QB has little chance of succeeding at an elite level week in - week out in the SEC. Don't kid yourselves. Simms was brought in to do more than provide depth, or security, or carry a clip board. I know the name Simms doesn't sit well with many in Knoxville, but get past that - our coaching staff definitely has. Ignorant grudges don't help build a championship team - evaluating, recruiting, and developing talent does. I personally believe you will see Simms competing for the starting job from early on in spring ball (assuming he applies himself to game film & book study). I agree that Bray, if at all possible, will redshirt. Then given the rest of the other QB's we have on the roster - looking at it objectively...can any of you REALLY say Simms might not be the opening day starter?? Just a bit of reality
So Juco Simms is better than Lamaison? Everyone knows this because................? Lamaison has been in the system and learning. He was also one of the best Juco QBs last year. Nick has little chance of being the starter.
Volquest (Rivals) has Bray a 5.45 in the 40. Is he really that slow? That is slower tnan all the offensive linemen listed and over 1 second slower than all the defensive linemen listed. Crompton is no speed demon and was rated at 4.9 coming out of HS, or .6 quicker than Bray. Can this be a misprint in his 40?

Seriously...he had no time to get acclimated to the system when he came in. If he can play here the way he played at Mt. SAC, then he will have a damn good shot, despite what many here think. He had better stats than Simms or Newton. Are you kidding me?! Laimaison! Hahaha. I'm sorry. He will be holding the clipboard this year.
