Really? You se a loft defensive linemen with sub 4.45 40 times? Damn, I must not be looking at the same guys you are.

All I am questioning is whether the 5.45 speed in the 40 listed for Bray is correct.

Look at the defnsive linemen on Rivals & Scout. I do not see a single DE or DT that is slower than 5.45 (Bray) and most are .50 -.95 seconds faster than Bray while carrying over 100 pounds more weight.

Look at the other QB listed on Rivalst & Scoutwith 40 speed. Nobody else is with .50 seconds of 5.45.

after seeing USC's offense get held hostage by a true freshman, I definitely would like to see Bray sit and ride out this yr with Stephens.
I have faith

I didn't realize that Barkley played both ways...because the defense (the lack of) is what usc's problem was this year.

Watch some film on Bray and you'll see that his 40 time is badly misleading. He's a fairly accurate guy that moves well in the pocket to allude the rush. We don't want out QB's running in straight lines, we want them in the pocket completing passes. He'll be fine in that regard.

I think Bray redshirts and it's a battle somewhat like this past year between Stephens and Simms. With Stephens getting the nod and Simms never really being that close.

I think Simms will make it more interesting than a lot of people think, but otherwise I agree with the rest of this post.

Yeah I think Simms has the talent to do it,but with Stephens experience and being in Kiffin's system for two seasons I think Stephens has got it.

Talk about delusion...go back over your comment and re-think that one.

Let's all take a moment of silence, so Sabanocchio's pilot light can be lit....

Ok, now...where were we...Oh, yeah. Matt Barkley being a freaky guy...I don't know about that. And I really DON'T want to know about that. But getting back to it being HIS fault for USC's four losses...hhhmmm....?

I seem to remember that the Trojans had their defense plundered by the NFL draft and then lost BOTH their OC and DC...to Washington, who subsequently upset them. Hhhhmmm....I wonder why?

Must be that Barkley curse thingy...? Step away from the paint can.....N-I-C-E and sssllllooooooooowwww.

Not that Sab needs help defending himself, however...IF, and I have to use that word IF strongly, IF you READ Sab's post - I don't think anywhere did he say USC's 4 losses were Barkley's fault. His claim was that USC starting a true freshman had a negative impact on those games and how Pete Carroll had his staff had to game plan for opponents. I, for one would have to agree.

Does that mean USC wins those 4 games if Sanchez would have stayed and they have a senior at QB? maybe - maybe not. Would the game plan have been different? YES. If you don't think so - go do some homework and check his stats against Sanchez. I'll give you Barkely's 13 TDs/12 Ints and a 6.3 yds/att avg. you go find the rest...The same less than stellar outcome would most likely prove true for UT with Bray starting, and with one huge flaw - he's not Barkley...not even close at this point in his development. Also a point that Sab was trying to make. (maybe in a year or two after adding some muscle and learning the system)

We all want a better team, a championship team. anybody who thinks Bray can come in "AS IS" into UT, into the SEC, against our schedule next season and gives us the best chance to win is clearly delusional.

thanks to people like Sab, LV, larry, and others for providing great insight. I've enjoyed reading the board. Just started posting. The illogical ramblings finally got me. thank to those who bring insight.

Stephens is in the driver's seat for the job.

Redshirt Bray. Feed him for a year and let him learn the system

The old bear bryant addage, a loss will occur for every true freshman you start.
We're going to lose games next year regardless. I'm not saying Bray should be named the starter right now, but I would like to see him getting time as soon as he is ready. If UT wants to win the SEC in 2011, it would be better if they weren't starting a first year guy. If Stephens is clearly better, let him play. If it looks like Bray will perform as well as Stephens, he should play.

Yea USC's defense was not up to par BUT

Mr barkely was mediocre at best. He had some weapons too,
one of the best Tight Ends in the NCAA and a 1st/2nd Round type WR, and Joe McKnight aint all that but he had 1000+ yards ...

Barkley had more Turnovers than TDs, thats HORRIBLE production from the QB of a top tier school.
Unless you have the Ravens 2000 defense youre not gonna win many games with that output

Did Alabama choose to go with McElroy last year? They have had a good 2 years.

I'm sorry, I don't get this reference in comparison to Bray. McElroy was a Soph. last season, sat for 2 years + a redshirt year...and it was thought he was an upgrade over Wilson last season but only got into 6 games...

Further what did Bama's playing him last year have to do with them having TWO good years?? He played this year. Seems like he added may have added to that....IDK...maybe I'm the only one confused but can you explain the comparison a bit further? Are you saying we should sit Bray??

Just a comparison... food for thought

tyler bray and peyton manning as a freshman
the supposed weight issue:)
