As far as getting coached by Brian Sipe or not. I would have to say Sipe would give you better coaching. I have seen Sipe at his SDSU camps and he is pretty good. Kiffen never saw the field at FSU (fresno state) and that's not to say he is not a good head coach, just that Sipe has an edge on Kiffin in that regard. But in the overall scheme of things UT has the advantage everywhelse. He will have much better receivers to throw to and o-line blocking for him at UT. How can you turn down 105,000 cheering for you compared to 20,000 if that.

qb coaching Sipe > Kiffin

College choice Ut> SDSU

Sipe was hired on January 18, 2009 as quarterback coach for his Alma Mater, San Diego State. Prior to that, he coached high school football at Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach.

Anyone who believes a first-year college QB coach at a mid-major school knows more about any facet of offense better than a head coach that was the OC at USC needs to rethink their position. I don't care what he did playing as a pro, because playing and coaching are two different skill sets. There are plenty of former QBs that know the game, but they don't all have the skills to teach and communicate with current players.

So, Tyler Bray is the new, great quarterback hope? What happens if he doesn't come here?

I suspect he will be thrown under the bus, just like every other qb prospect that has committed elsewhere. He will go from must-have status to he-wasn't-very-good-anyway status. Who would be the next under-the-radar qb prospect? No doubt he will be better than all the others we missed on...until he, too, chooses to go elsewhere. Then, instead of over-hyping him, we'll run him into the ground.

Apparently there is a need to simplify it further.

1) I didn't say a QB HAD to play in the NFL, I said it is a selling point when recruiting.

2) You didn't ask about Cutcliffe at Tenn, you ask about Cutcliffe.

3) Cutcliffe had already proven he could coach a QB to NFL when we were recruiting PManning, Heath Shuler finished 2nd in the '93 Heisman race and was the 3rd pick in the NFL draft.

Kind of proves the point I've been making all along.

Wow.

1. You might not have said the word HAD, but you damn sure insinuated the point.

2. Anybody with 3+ functioning brain cells could figure out that I was referring to Cutcliffe at UT, since we are on a website called Vol Nation. No one cares about Duke.

3. Do we need to go over QB's that were nominated for the Heisman and drafted that were complete busts to refute your argument?

You change the rules as you go along. All of the BS "points" you were trying to make were ended with Cutcliffe, but then he coached Heath Shuler. I didn't ask whom he had ever coached. I asked did he fit the criteria you were throwing at the new staff. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now, we do agree on one point, that CDR appears to be the weak link in the coaching chain. I would love to have made an Orgeron-esque QB coach hire, but we have CDR. He did coach under SOS, so that is a positive. Let's give him a chance and see what results we get on the field before running him out of town.

I doubt Crompton could be any worse than last year.

Who is this "We'll" you speak of?...As far as I've seen nobody has run anybody into the ground because they committed elsewhere...With Scroggins We only said he would ride the bench for 3 years and he WILL ride the bench for 3-4 years...That's not throwing him under the bus...That's just a hard slap of reality...you either like the recruit or not, no two ways about it and its not our job to recruit these kids, that's what we got this highly paid coaching staff for..Get your stories straight before coming here and accusing people of throwing people under buses...Welcome to volnation :hi:

I am very interested in seeing how Bray performs this year. I hope he turns out to be the best prospect out of Cali. Dream scenario would be that he becomes the best QB recruit in the state, he comes to UT, and JS sits on the bench for three years. Actually, I have no hard feelings for Scroggins. I am just hoping that Bray lives up to his camp performances and becomes a Vol

saw the elite 11 competetion on TV this morning. Bray is skinny, but not as bad as I once thought. Looks like a sharp kid.

Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith, neither a large-bodied back, have three other significant things in common:

1. Are 1-2 in all-time rushing yards from scrimmage, thus they have busts in Canton.
2. Were well-known for their durability, yet both with equally notable toughness
3. Both would disagree with Flatliner.

That's true, there are some that don't but Sipe does. With all the talent that SC has, you could probably call the plays and they would still win.

+1

I'm not sure if anyone has an inside line of communication with the kid, but are people thinking he is going to make a decision soon to either confirm his commitment to SDSU or perhaps revoke his verbal?

As a kingsburg resident I would like to set the record straight. Tyler runs abour 5.0 40yrd and weighs about 195 or more right now. His verticle is about 27-29in. And he has only lost 5 games since moving to town 6 years ago. Great leader.

Not sure if this has been posted or not but Bray coming this weekend. Says its down to UT and SDS. Sounds like a Vol to me.

QB Bray moves up visit to Tennessee - ESPN

I know we're all partial and biased here...but other than proximity what could SDSU possibly trump UT on?

If he considers himself a serious prospect with a serious future...and if he's seriously down to UT or SDSU...how in the world could there be any real decision to make?

Not to downplay Bray's capabilities but why are we one of the few big schools that offered him. Is there something that I can't see?

AGREED

The kid won the elite 11 and he's going to grow. The elite 11 guy says he's going to be an NFL guy. He knows more than I do so I'll believe him.

Any idea if anyone's planning on painting the rock this weekend? Bray's in, but who else is visiting this weekend?

Would be a great idea but it will be super hard to keep it painted due to all the people coming and the frats and sororities will be trying to paint crap on it that has zero meaning....Best bet, Paint it and GUARD IT!!
