'10 CA QB Tyler Bray (Commit/On Campus)

Bray is a great fit for the Pro-Style offense. He has a lot of the same skill sets as Ainge had and a very similar makeup and frame. They almost look like carbon copies to me as high school seniors from a build standpoint.

Bray is going to be fine at qb and I very much expect him to come in and compete for the starting job as a freshman. Just because the kid needs to add 20 pds or so doesn't make him a "project". He has plenty of time to do that. A lot of kids get their height spurt before they fill out. It doesn't effect his decision making or ability to complete a pass. We will take an '11 qb or two because we need more at the position but bray will be our qb of the future.

You hit this one right on. I agree with this 100%.
I don't know why people are worrying about his weight. If he comes in early he can easily put on 20+ pounds. Our S&C program will do wonders for him.

Because we have 4 seniors on the OL. And Unless we get some early enrolees who play beyond their years the qb, whoever it is, is going to take some licks.

See: Prince (UCLA's qb) and he's a RS Freshman.

It's ridiculous to say that a 6'6 215 pd qb can't take a hit. The only reason anybody would make such an argument is if they are one of these newton lovers who don't get why you don't bring in a train wreck like him when you are building a championship football team. I'm not saying that bray will for sure win the starting job as a freshman but he will compete for it and has a good shot. newton will never put on a vol uniform and for good reason.

Theres a difference in taking a hit, and taking about 20 hits a game.
Much less when its by 250 pound men who are running 4.5s.

Even at 215, he's still going to be tiny. At 6'7, or even taller as he may end up, thats just not a good weight. Theres a reason hes trying to get to at least like 225 or whatever it was by the time he gets here.

If our qb gets hit 20 times in a game, it doesn't matter if we have ben roethlisberger back there...he's going to have problems. In any case 225 is not on unrealistic weight for him to reach anyway. 215 is the absolute min he will be.

He needs some meat on his ribs and shoulders. Legs are not that big of a deal. Muscle on the legs wont save you from a ACL tear. I think Bray will do just fine. As long as the fan base doesnt hate him before he even sees the field.

If you saw his dad at the game withTyler on his visit (and it's hard to miss him) he is a big guy. His Dad was 6'8" and around 195# or so coming out of high school. Once he got to college and a weight program with a nutrition he put on weight, and that was a California Juco, not a SEC D1 elite school. So the genetics are there. I wouldn't be worried about his weight. He never has put much emphisis into getting bigger and stronger, once UT trainers get a hold of him look out cuz I think it will build up fast.

Guys, most Freshmen QB's come in as sticks. Bray is just overblown because of how tall he is. Remember, the kid is 17-18 and will grow PLENTY, just look at his dad. Enrolling early will do him a world of good. The best QB in the history of our school was skin and bones as a true freshman as well, and he played OK that year. Bray will be fine.

yes, discussing the weight issue is a joke. I want him to be able to play well at the qb position. Also, I stated this before, as I used to be 6'8 190lbs at that age. Now I am 6'8 about 260lbs.

Gomer, it's not ridiculous to say that with an inexperienced OL blocking for an inexperienced true freshman qb he doesn't stand a good chance of being injured irregardless of his size.

And if he does get injured who's left?

If it's next year, Stephens. The year after that, Lamaison or another freshman.

I'm not convinced Bray will start game 1 next year. Maybe at some point in the season but I wouldn't be surprised if Stephens will start. He would be in his second year with the system. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Lamaison is given a shot to win the job. It seems unlikely he would win it but I'm thinking a freshman quarterback is the last thing the staff would want to put on the field. If Bray's the best next year, then I guess they have no choice though.

Stephens will most likely start next seasons. Then Bray and Lam will compete for the 2 and 3 spot. IMO.

They could put him on the Phil and Chief Diet,,,lots of orange sodas and moon pies. Of course a Genuine Stuckey's Pecan Log for snack time. The occasional peanuts poured into the orange soda for fiber.

No more likely than any other qb, timmy. now run along...we are having a grown up discussion here.

Tyler I can't wate for you to get here. We need you and want you so much. We will have the recievers for you along with a O line that will take care of you. Rumble young man rumble Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

bray will start as a sophmore with a freshman backing him up and probably another freshman as a 3rd string with lamiason 4th

In Bray's first game this season, he threw for 2 TDs and directed his team to a 44-13 victory. Their opponents had beaten a team the week before by 48-0. Anyway, here's an article about the game.

Kingsburg Recorder

"Tennessee did not offer me anything more than San Diego State, but I just felt right there because it felt like home," Bray said, who attended Tennessee's victory over Western Kentucky Sept. 5. "It was a warm atmosphere, the fans are great and were yelling at me everywhere I went, so I felt welcome."

So much for everyone who was saying the people yelling at him are idiots and jacka**'s. :p
