'10 DE J.R. "Ego" Ferguson

"Ego" Ferguson came to the camp as a surprise attendee and seemed like he had something to prove. He has great feet, an explosive first step and he uses his arms and hands well to get offensive linemen off balance. He has a strong array of pass-rushing moves that he showcased despite the fact he likely could have simply bull-rushed everyone.

"I know about their defensive line tradition," Ferguson said. "I know they've had some stud D-linemen. ... They're known as D-line U. I also know they have a really nice campus but I've never been on it before."
In regards to LSU

"I think he's a real good coach and my father gets along with good with him so that's a real big plus,' Ferguson said. "Right now I don't know my interest level but I do have an interest in LSU. That's a reason I need to get a chance to look at their school and do my research before I start evaluating them more."
In regards to Brick Haley and LSU

Just don't understand why he would do that. Anyway I really like this kid. I hope he wears O and W.

I saw this asked on VQ earlier. Apparently mommy is in Florida, so he may be interested in spending a year with her before heading off to college.

There is some precedent for a guy Ferguson's size to be a DE. Carlos Dunlap was almost the same listed weight coming out of high school and plays DE now at 290+.

I wish we were in the running for him. Has potential to be a future Outland Trophy winner.

Dunlap was 6'7 though, and is just a complete freak of an athlete. Ego might be able to do it, but its a lot less likely than for Dunlap

He's headed to Hargrave it looks like per his current coach Jimmy Ward at St. John's Catholic Prep in Maryland. J.R. also said it was true via text he sent me today from school. We'll have more on this as it develops.

My best guess is that this helps the southern schools for sure and hurts schools like Penn State, Maryland, Boston College, Rutgers, Illinois and others who recruit the state of Maryland pretty well. I think he ends up in the SEC or perhaps at Miami or FSU. Southern Cal will be in the mix as well. But he's wide open at this point.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but I'm starting to like our chances.
