'10 FL ATH Matt Elam

If Elam goes somewhere other than UF, they only have theirselves to blame. If he does leave, it is because they continued to recruit other DBs after they promised him that they were done with that. Urb may think he is sneaky and try to bring Elam in as an early enrollee and then pick up another DB or two in the next two months, but, if Matt finds anything out about those type of plans, then he will be a Vol. There have been multiple sources out of Florida that say that Elam is very much looking at the Vols and alot of them aren't pro-UT. To say we have no chance is ignorant.

I agree completely with what you said. We have become Safety U for some reason and continue to recruit more. However, his ties to UF I believe will win out in the end much like Chaz's ties to UT for comparison purposes. Although, I will never count the Vols out and I believe he is definitely intrigued about him becoming the next EB if anyone could ever step into those shoes.

I've heard nothing that leads me to believe he will be a vol. Not saying it won't happened, but I will be surprised if Meyer lets Elam get away. We have cooled on recruiting any other safeties at the risk of scaring Elam into decommiting. A lot of rumors turn out to be false so until I hear that it is confirmed he is going back to Tennessee with his parents then I think he is a gator.

Never know though.

Not really. I have heard a rumor that he is planning a trip to Knoxville with his family but that isn't confirmed. If it is true then he is a Vol...period.

props to u back2back. fact is yall will lose some, we will lose some but both teams recruiting classes will be fine. thanks for adding to the conversation with some insight and intelligence :hi:

This. I don't buy the rumors either.

That happens every year with us. We will continue to lose recruits but we will also continue to gain recruits. If we lose Elam then we gain Tony Jefferson so it all evens out in the end.

It was sort of sarcasm and sort of a congrats. Put it like this...I still believe he is a Gator but I don't like all the rumors that are going around.

Try to follow the Matt Elam recruiting process. I dare you.

Following those visits (UT and WVU), he and his family had a long talk with Florida coach Urban Meyer and Elam said he was 100 percent committed to the Gators.

But Elam took an official visit to Florida State this past weekend and sources say he had a great time. Now, he has officials scheduled to Georgia in November and Ohio State in December, which leaves no room for an official to Gainesville.

Florida likely could land UCLA commitment Tony Jefferson, a safety from Chula Vista (Calif.) Eastlake, if they pushed hard enough, as sources say he would love to play for the Gators.

If Jefferson visits Gainesville, that could signal that Florida no longer is confident in Elam's status.

- Mike Farrell... I tried to summarize it. He talked alot about Elam looking around...

His family wanted him to take the tOSU visit even before WVU and UT but the UGA visit has come at a total shock. It was rumored that he was going up with Luc maybe to swing him back UF way but word out of the Swamp is Jeff will be at the Vandy game this weekend. I just think it has something to do with the Jefferson, Riley and Shaw rumors. Meyer has been trying to sell him on Jefferson coming in as OLB if Hicks didn't pan out despite most school seeing him as a SS.

If the Jefferson/Riley/Shaw rumors are true then I would take that trio and not even think twice about it. Elam is nice but 3 Top-100 players>>>1.

Yeah and we have Fulton taking a official which is perfect timing after the fall out of the UT beat down plus Bama may be slow playing him so I think we have a shot. Josh Shaw is coming back on his own dime with his parents think this is his 3rd trip. The more and more I think about it he may have been a "silent" since UT game. If everyone shows for FSU game Watch out we could make history in Cali. We also need to send the Ducks something special for helping us lay pavement in Cali.

Shaw I think you get. Riley is going to USC. Powell is going to be a closer fight than you guys think. It's a joke that you guys think you'll land Jefferson. I think you have a better shot at Stills. Good luck.

Shaw and Powell are Gators...We talked about this Sab...Powell is more of a lock than Shaw is despite what you are hearing. ;)

USC is recruiting Powell for LB and we are for DE. He wants to play DE and he has a chance to start next year with our slim depth chart. PT means more than almost anything nowadays...Hes willing to come across country for the chance to start when he has a premier program in his back yard. PT is a significant part of the reason UT is recruiting so well. You have lots of PT available and kids eat up the thought of being able to start as a true Fr.

Yes, we did, but I have my own opinion. I agree on Shaw, and Powell may be a silent, but it's not over yet. You could be right, and I never said he wouldn't end up there, just that I think it's a lot closer than you guys do.

Your logic makes sense, but sometimes recruits do not make the logical decision.

As far as playing time being the reason we are recruiting so well, it is "A" reason but not the reason. (I know you didn't say that -- it was inferred) We are recruiting well at positions we are loaded at too. And we will continue to recruit well, when we have championships to sell instead of playing time.
