'10 FL ATH Matt Elam

Funny because I think Lane told Riley he was a "top priority" but Meyer kept his word he hasn't taken any other safeties. Riley offer was because of Lane and Matt's UT visit then Jefferson calls UF about visit but Meyer held off until Matt took FSU visit. tOSU visit was always know because of brother and even FSU was possible visit but UT was slap to Gators. IMO Meyer did the right thing by giving TJ visit. As for as Snead, dude you took from that interview what you wanted to spin. Just like spin Yahoo Sports made from Vick's interview. Great tabloid editing.

Took what from what interview? There was no interview.

Bruce Feldman reported in Meat Market that Snead was a happy Florida commitment until he caught the Tebow documentary on ESPN and saw Meyer and Mullen in the stands at one of Tim's game. According to Feldman, when Snead asked Meyer about it, Meyer told him not to worry, that Florida was recruiting Tebow as a linebacker. Snead didn't buy it and bolted for Texas.

Snead wanted to believe him because he wanted to go to Florida, but at that point, his high school coach intervened. "We may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night," Morris said later, recalling the situation. "Jevan was too dear to me to let something like that happen to him."

Dixon can be a CB for us. He isn't overly big and is skilled enough to play both positions. We also have no other DBs committed and I'm sure we've told Elam we plan on taking 2 DBs.

Lane didn't tell Riley he was his top priority either. He said that he had the possibility to be the next Eric Berry. He said the same to Elam. That isn't lying. Any DB that comes in has that possibility. Lane did misplay that, though. Urban told Elam that he wasn't pursuing any more safeties. Now all of a sudden, he plans on bringing Jefferson in for a visit and his reasoning is that Jefferson will be an OLB. No way.
Dixon is a SS all the way IMO. He isn't flexible enough to play corner. He'll end up being about a 6'1" 215 lb safety.

Elam is headed to Florida anyway. Meyer won't sign another safety and Elam will enroll in December.

Wherever Matt goes he's a monster pick up for that program. Unlike some other UF fans I see the power of Kiffin's staff. I know how hard Gran and Coach O work but in FL they are HUGE and relentless. If UT gets him I hope its because he wanted to be a Vol and not to spite Urban. Love the kids talent but he needs to worry about his development and not so much about other recruits because when he see field at UT then he's working hard at becoming all-SEC. Monte doesnt allow soft and lazy kids to play for him.

It sounds like the Florida coaches told Matt that he had to take an OV to Florida to keep his spot and Matt scheduled one for the FSU game. That is good news for UF because he wasn't planning on giving us an OV before.

I promise you, the coaches didn't tell Matt he had to do anything.

I agree completely and it is part of the reason I wouldn't be against taking Tony Jefferson right now. If Elam jumps to WVU, FSU, or UT then whatever. There is very little difference between TJ and Elam anyway. The last thing we can do is hold-off on TJ only to have Elam screw us over in the end.

We do have other options. Elam isn't a once in a generation type of talent or anything.

He's the best safety on yours or anyone else's board. The dude is ready to play right away and is already developed. He's a rare find. That's why your coaches are bending over backwards to hang on to him.

Matt Elam is not a rare find. He is a good player but we have recruited elite Safeties every year. Dee Finley, Will Hill, Major Wright, etc. Elam will be a very good player for us but he won't start from day 1. No chance of that.

Will Hill? That's funny.

No they didn't...How you make some of this up is beyond me...

I guess elite wasn't the right word. Just out of that group of safeties listed, I would say he's been the most solid one for us. It just confused me that he picked him out of the group listed.

I think he is massively overrated.

What? The kid is in the top 5 on the defense in tackles. Took Major's starting spot and hasn't made many bad plays or missed tackle. Don't think you've watched many games UF. He's quietly consistent but you'll take EB/JJ over anyone because EB allows Jackson to make a few big plays and hit. I've seen JJ make some bad plays this year.

Your freaking safeties are supposed to be in the top 5 in tackles. That's how it works. He is not the beast he was supposed to be, or even close.

He didn't take Major's spot, he plays because yall use the 3-3-5 alot. And yes he is pretty good. Would not say he is elite but could be in a year or two.

So junder, are you implying that it's an all or nothing deal for Luc and Elam?

Hey tripper. No, I was a little short on brevity and long on vagueness. Sorry. I meant to imply that they may be interested in attending the same school b/c they seem to have become friends to some degree. By no means do I think they're a package deal. I think, at most, it could be a situation (hypothetically) where in late Dec one is certain where they want to go and the other is completely undecided and so the other's persuasion helps tilt the decision. I by no means think they're a package. Just that it could POTENTIALLY play a very minor role for either UT or UF. Just something to keep in mind, is all.

Berry doesn't allow Jackson to do what he does. The way Berry plays puts more pressure on Jackson if anything.

Not sure but that just maybe a UT thing if your Safeties are your leading tacklers then your cb and lb are getting done in. Guess thats why UF has the SEC number one overall defense and number one passing D. Because our LB's and CB's tackle on don't allow our safeties to make many plays. Only thing he hasn't done this year is make many ints but had four last year and 2 were pick-6's.
