'10 FL WR De’Joshua Johnson

We could have a pissing match all day. I mean, IMO there is a whole lot more for a HS kid to think about rather than the NFL. If you have "it", no matter what offense you run in college, you will be decent in the NFL.

hate agreeing with gators, but yeah, this kid thinks way too much about the nfl. in other interviews, he was talking about how he will only be in college for 3 years because he will be leaving early to go to the nfl. regardless of the offensive system he plays in, this kid is tiny. if gators are to be believed, he is 135 lbs. What makes him so sure the nfl is going to want a guy like him that might be 150-160 lbs, after his junior season?

and before you go listing the names of a bunch of small receivers, i ask you this. for every really small guy that succeeded, how many failed?

according to a quick google search, the lightest player in the nfl is falcons kicker kevin lovell, at 155 lbs.

Gator fans are people too. Just a substandard of them. BTW, good post.

I honestly don't see him being a great NFL player, same with Nu'keese. They would both have to bulk up A LOT and keep the same speed/quickness which is a very hard thing to do.

i agree, they might just not be built for the nfl. but, i wouldn't mind if both of them became great college players at UT.

UF is better than us at every single position except RB and maybe, just maybe, defensive line. They pretty much completely dominate at every other position.

Berry and whoever else we start at safety still doesn't cancel out 2 bonafide stud safeties, as well as some pretty solid backups. Corners....we can't even touch. Janoris Jenkins, Joe Haden, and Pierre-Louis are all better than. anyone we have. Spikes and Doe alone carries them over us at LB. Carlos Dunlap is a freak at DE and the others are all solid. OL isn't even a competition. Hernandez is better than anyone we have at TE. WRs are fairly close compared to the rest, but Debose and everyone they have on campus is already pretty solid, while we have maybe 3 guys of that caliber. We've got them beat at RB. And then I don't even have to mention QBs.

Seriously guys you have to look at they're defensive scheme compared to ours too. They're players were allowed to be football players and make plays instead of playing soft coverage and playing more of a contain style of D. Our ends will be just as good as Florida's this year mark it down. And Rogan is just as good as any corner they have except for Jenkins. And watch for Evans and Vinson in this scheme. We are every bit as talented as they are in the secondary. If not more once the recruits get here.

I don't think that post is to off. I honestly think the same thing. However, I have said much more rash things and vol football has let me down (recently). Hopefully, you will be right and the new staff will continue to do everything they are. I do have a lot of expectations starting this year. There isn't a rebuilding year with the talent we have.

not saying we have elite talent. but better than teams that go through the "rebuilding process"

Ask any Gator fan which unit is the deepest and strongest and they'll say our defensive backfield.

While it doesn't really prove anything, they did lead the NCAA in INT's and did a damn good job of slowing down an OU team that scored over 700 points during the regular season. Keep an eye out for Will Hill this year, he could easily be the best of the bunch.

If you think your secondary is as good as ours, they must be pretty special.

Dude you'll find out. Your corners get to play with a lot of help over the top. Which doesn't take away from their worth. But your front seven is the real strength. It allows you to play D with just seven in the box. You guys will really see how good our players are this year.

The Vol's D was better last year. Florida's D will prolly be better this year, but it will be closer than most Gator fans think...

They were about even to me. They got turnovers and stops on third down. We still had an efficiency problem on third downs and we should have had more turnovers. But we were playing soft coverages. We would have had a lot of turnovers if we played closer coverages while we were blitzing.

Well statistically, Florida had the #9 D in the country and #3 in the SEC, while UT was tied (with Bama) with the 3rd best D in country and the #1 D in the SEC last year. I think that is a huge accomplishment when you consider all the bad spots the offense put the Vols D in, and how long the defense was on the field every game...

"The spread offense is killing quarterbacks' ability to take snaps under center," Every said. "At every camp I have been to, quarterbacks are being asked to do three-, five- and seven-step drops. Those are things they're not used to because of the spread offense because they're in the shotgun on every play."

From Barry Every...

"Florida State, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Oregon, and USC," Johnson said of his top schools. "It changes though. I haven't seen a lot of the schools and I am hearing from so many, so things can change. There are just a lot of schools so I can't really answer that beyond how I feel right now. After I take some more visits I can figure it out and find where I am going."

his new top consists of FSU, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Oregon and USC...says he will make his decision September 25 as a tribute to Norman Griffin

Why would any prospect want to go to that mess at FSU?

You ask an excellent question.

But FSU has a great tradition of producing skill players and defensive players that succeed in the NFL. Anquan Boldin went to the same high school as Johnson....so he's a bit of an idol for boys growing up near Pahokee.

Also, FSU has a reputation of being a little less demanding regarding academic standards and extracurricular shenanigans. That scenario is appealing for quite a few recruits.

Plus, there is still some halo left from the '90's when FSU was a quasi-dynasty.
