'10 GA ATH Blake Sims

This has been out there since the beginning of the season for this kid. His family and HS coach always wanted him to go to UGA. I love when parents get involved. He must know the Scroggins family.

The funny part is UGA is struggling for players so now they go after him and the dad jumps. It also makes sense when we got D White commitment the other day. Plus if we get K Allen, which I believe will happen, Blake would end up a DB and now with A Dixon looking at us he is getting pushed down the pecking order even more.

Another B Sims quote. Kind of 3rd hand info. Came from a GA HS message board, which apparently came from some UGA website...

Blake Sims:

"I am shocked that I won't be able to play for Georgia. I love Coach Richt, but I just gave my word to Coach Saban and I cannot let him down." Sims said, solidifying his status with Alabama.

Sims has been a part of one of the most explosive offenses in all of Georgia, one that puts up almost 47 points per game. He has 1114 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air, 345 rushing yards with six touchdowns on the ground, and Sims also caught two balls for 148 yards receiving and both went for touchdowns as well. Sims says none of that matters if his Red Elephants to not take home the AAA state title.

"I am not worried about my stats right now, at the end of the year all I want to know is that I got that state championship ring on my finger," said Sims.

This kid has been dead set on Bama.. It's very rare to see a commitment that firm..

No he hasn't actually. He's a good kid and wants to honor his commitment, but he has been considering de-committing since he originally committed, really coming to a head almost at UT's one day camp where he worked as a WR. His dad is worried about the perception a de-commitment might bring.

Where have you heard this?

Did anyone else hear the Scout recruiting evaluator on Sports 180 today? When asked who might be a big surprise when all is said and done, the first name he put out there was Blake Sims. He said Tennessee is pursuing hard, and the interest is on both sides. The guy's name is Chad something, and he is in charge of the Southeast region for Scout. I posted this in another thread also, about a rumor of a Bama commitment going to Tennessee being reported on ESPN. Everyone is assuming it is James, but why would that be a rumor?.........

Sports radio here in ATL loves him and had it not been for AJ Blake would have been the star of last week's game.

I thought we were dead in the water with this kid....where is all this coming from?

If this kid goes anywhere other then UA it will be UGA. UGA is all over this kid and he was just interviewed a few weeks back and said UGA was always his dream school but they hadn't offer when he commited to UA. Now they have and he is torn. I saw one article where it showed his family inside their house on a Saturday for a UGA game. They are die hards UGA fans. Even the furniture has the G on it. The dad and the rest of the family are pushing him for a visit to UGA to give them a shot.

Even though on Sunday B Sims said again after his visit this past weekend to UA he was still solid, but I think he ends up at UGA.

“That was pretty cool,” Blake’s father, Sonny Sims, said of getting a phone call from Richt on Monday. “Coach Richt has been part of Blake’s life for a long time. We’ve got pictures of Blake with Coach Richt as a 9th grader. That’s why we couldn’t understand why Georgia didn’t snag him early because he’d been groomed all his life for Georgia. Everything in our house was Georgia. We were shocked when Blake committed to Alabama. It just happened. He didn’t even give me a chance to talk to him about it. He just did it. But he did and we’ve got a good relationship now with Coach [Nick] Saban. So it’s a tough situation.”

Sims declined comment for this story and deferred to his father and Gainesville coach Bruce Miller. “Me and his father are going to handle this,” Miller said. “It’s a touchy situation and we want keep Blake out of it.”

Miller said Georgia’s head coach asked “for the chance to sit down and talk with them.” And that has been both flattering and flustering for the Sims family.

“Here’s what we’re dealing with: The parents love Coach Richt,” Sonny Sims said. “Blake loves coach Richt. We’ve known him for four years and we think he’s the perfect man for our child to live with for the next four years. But we also raised Blake to believe that his word is his bond. And Coach [Nick] Saban is an honorable man, too. So Blake gave his word on one side but his heart is on the other side.”

“I know one thing that’s going to happen: He IS going to sit down and talk to Coach Richt,” Sonny Sims said. “That’s got to happen because half of the things we raised Blake on were from things Coach Richt said.”

I think you're right. The college football world could use a couple more like Blake Sims too. That dude oozes integrity. Great foundation he has too. His dad is a great guy from what I've heard.
