'10 JUCO WR Kenbrell Thompkins

wow nothing...everyone needs to quit being a crybaby on here. he signed the LOI 2 bad. if he wanted to go to oregon so bad he should have signed with them. its not our problem. these kids need to learn that this is the real world and they cant change their mind everytime they fart

I say that if KT wants to play for Oregon, let him sit out a year...a commitment should be just that, a commitment to that particular school and not to a coach...GBO!

He doesn't want to be here, let him go. He's an academic risk anyways. There is not one reason I can think of why we should keep him.

Ya had me goin until you said no reason to keep him. I agree he's an academic risk, has character issues, doesn't wanna be here, etc. I agree we should release him, but he can play.

I agree, I honestly hope we dont grant a release

So we take a guy who is already thought of to be both a character and grade risk and force him into an unhappy situation at a place he doesn't want to be? Don't see how that could end badly, not at all.

:salute:

Coach should tell him. "if you wanna play and make it to the next level, its either Tennessee or nowhere."

I've felt all along he would be a one and done kid, he should just accept it play his yr, ball outta control, and then move on to the next level

Someone who doesn't want to be here, has academic problems, and is taking up a scholly that someone else who we could get that is at a need position, really just needs to be cut lose. He has shown, IMO, that he doesn't want to be here, so cut ties and move on.

While I agree with you that we should let him go, Hamilton really drew a line in the sand when he said no one who signed LOIs would be let out of them. I think some could interpret it as a double standard if we just let him walk without any reprecussions. Since that policy has been put out there and enforced with the EEs, I think we should hold KT to the same standard.

Those guys didn't sign LOIs and could have left. It's not the same thing as what the JUCO guys did. Now, had they went to class, it was binding after that. That's why Jac went home to think about things.

Kenbrell was gonna be an EE until Kiffin left. Doesn't sound like there were too many academic concerns.

He signed,he should honor his commitment.
sooner or later, Reality will settle into his brain, he would have 2 options, either he accepts things and plays or he pouts and refuses to play and gets the boot. KT's motivating factors are NFL and money, use it as a carrot. He will realise the best way to his end game, is to get in line and play by the rules

Simms and Thompkins were the only 2 who signed LOIs cuz they were JUCO EEs. The thing that binded all the high school EEs to UT was they were on campus at midnight the day of class. They were then Vols.

Neverthelesss, your point is still valid. Hamilton made it clear that the EEs would not be released. They committed to the school, not the coach. That includes Thompkins.

Pretty much the point I was trying to make. I personally wouldn't hold anyone here that didn't want to be here. However, if my AD made that decision before I got the job I would apply that decision to all.

Not true. We don't make the return trip to Eugene until 2013.

does not matter to me when we play Oregon...make him sit out a year...you commit to the University and not to Coach "X"...GBO!

I agree with honoring the commitment. For those who feel bad for KT because "he doesn't want to be here", please realize that most college students "feelings" can change as easily as the weather. Give him the option to play or sit a year, and in a matter of months or less he will be glad to have the opportunity to be coached under Baggett and finish his collegiate career at UT.

If his option is to play hard on TV in the SEC and make it to the NFL or sit out a year and try out the draft at that point, smart money is on the former.

We have several million motivating factors for the kid to play well whether he is happy here or not.
