In this instance, if Hubbs said that. He is wrong.
He needs a release from Tennessee.
Thompkins did sign and while he wasn't eligible for EE if he meets the requirements this semester and during summer then he is bound to his LOI to Tennessee.
Unless it is released by Tennessee.
At this point, there is a lot of confusion as to what the final outcome will be.
Brent Hubbs said on the radio last night that UT is not pursuing Thompkins and that goes back to the Kiffy days. Says THompkins would love to be a Vol but he didn't make it gradewise enough to early enroll, he didn't sign anything and since we signed DaRick and Hunter, we have no slot for him. End of story.
NCAA void his LOI? since when?
when have you seen that happen? seriously, I need examples?
on the NCAA eligibility hompe page it says a letter of intent is a binding contract. once u sign that paper, says the school only has the power to release you ... he's done!
the conditions have been met on Tennessee's end. he met eligibility requirements, we offered him his scholarship ..he's sh*t out of Luck.
LOI Rules
The 2 things I bolded are false.
1) He does not want to be a Vol.
2) Thompkins signed an LOI. He said he was supposed to hear something late last week from UT and be released, but it appears that hasn't happened.
Hubbs is severely misinformed here.
I think the NCAA is trying to void his LOI so it does not effect him considering the circumstances... If the rule does not change he sits a year..
He's never going to play a down here. I'd love to be wrong about that, but there's hardly any scenario realistically where he just says "oh, okay I'll play for Tennessee" and suits up next season. These things sometimes just take a while to get done, I would bet on it being over with sometime next month.
