Probably wouldn't have been an impact player at UT anyways. With our new crop of receivers and two returning starters he would have peaked as a #4 target (behind Stocker, Jones, and Moore) at best.

Hazelton isnt what you think, he couldnt crack the lineup at USC and theyre WRs besides DWill werent any good. You take away his HS ranking and he's an avg WR with practically no film in 2 yrs at SC.
Hello all. First off, I am a Cincy guy but Tennessee is my favorite SEC team and I somewhat follow you guys during the season. I am really looking forward to visiting Neyland Stadium for the game in 2011.
I came over here to do a little reading on our supposed new guy and decided to register. (There is quite a bit you guys have to say on the guy so I have only scratched the surface so far but I like what I see).
As for Hazelton, it is my understanding that he was plagued with injuries keeping him from cracking the USC starting lineup again.(I can understand that since UC has a player that had 13 TDs in 2007 for his freshman year but has had trouble cracking back into our receiver rotation after a leg injury and it isnt looking good for him with this new addition). Several different sources have said that Hazelton has looked like a monster both back during last year's spring practices and again so far this year.
To be honest I am a bit stunned at Thompkins choice if he indeed is coming to UC. I just dont know how we are going to have enough balls to go around and that was before adding Thompkins to the equation. Thompkins sounds like he will be either our 1 or 2 reciever. It sounds like Hazelton is going to be getting a good deal of touches. Binns is set for a breakout senior year. DJ Woods is our best pure reciever and makes spectacular grabs. Then supposedly the new coach is giving Barnett the chance to break into the rotation again after not having much luck in the 2 years since his 13 TD freshman campaign. I guess our incoming receivers will be redshirted. That doesnt even take into account our tight ends and the inevitable passes that our running backs will be getting.
I just hope that this guy decides to stay on for a second year because we dont really need him this year but there will be a great deal of opportunity for him to shine in 2011 when we arent quite as loaded at reciever.
Anyway I will head back to lurker mode and surf through the forum.
ESPNWith accomplished WRs Armon Binns and D.J. Woods (combined 1,528 yards and 15 TDs in 2009) returning, Cincinnati does not need USC transfer Vidal Hazelton to replace star Mardy Gilyard. But the new coaching staff is going to give Hazelton every chance to do so -- including as a kick returner, a category in which Gilyard led the Big East.
"I don't want to compare him to Mardy because Mardy has done so many great things here and it's (spring) practice (number) four," coach Butch Jones said on Thursday, "but I will tell you this: Vidal has great, great skills. We've just got to develop them."
Hazelton is 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, runs a 4.4 40 and led USC in receiving as a sophomore in 2007. Bill Koch of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes, "Hazelton has such soft hands the ball seems to stick to them like a magnet." He still shows some sign of rust, but Jones loves Hazelton's makeup.
"The big thing for me to focus on this year is just to really try to get better," Hazelton said. "Whatever the coach tells me to work on, after every route, I'm going to ask the GA (grad assistant), 'How did that look?' I'm just trying to get better at the little things. I know I'm a talented kid. I know the little things are what's going to separate me."
As we've said before, the Bearcats may have the best group of receivers in the country -- and Hazelton projects to be the best of the best.
