Received a scholarship offer from Memphis, and expecting one from Southern Miss this week.

Per Rivals:

"I also hear from Tennessee, they want me to walk-on, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Georgia, Marshall and Georgia Tech" said Acosta.

"I haven't really talked to a bunch of schools; I've been focusing on the season. Everything is up in the air right now. I'm just trying to soak it all in. I love all the schools. I am going to talk with my family about the schools that are interested in me this weekend to clear up some of my options."

If the kid can kick...then we shouldn't mess around. Having Palardy is great, but that puts us one tweaked muscle from being right back in the same stinking mess we are in today. And having one guy do all 3 duties will put him at high risk of such an injury

Dude, you're nuts if you think we have another scholly this season to spare on a kicker. Palardy is an all-in-one and it puts your eggs all in one basket but we have a #s crunch as it is w/ elite recruits leaning to us. We have both Lincoln and Cunningham back next season, so although they're not fan favorites, they will more than suffice for options if needed. Lincoln blows this season but a lot of it is his injury. Palardy is plenty for one recruiting season. There'll be other great options next recruiting season.
I hope he walks on but anyone expecting a scholarship offer w/ Palardy already in the fold and our #s crunch is just not thinking clearly (to put it nice).

If the kid would be "preferred" walk-on, then no football scholarship burned and that would be awesome. He can get the hope scholarship I believe (if I remember hearing correctly he's got almost a 4.0). I'd like to have a backup in case something happens to Palardy.

No way we burn two scollies on kickers this year. If this kid doesn't walk on, he won't be here. I have no problem with Palardy doing all three and keeping whoever will walk on as a backup.

There is zero chance of this guy getting a scholly. He said it himself -- we want him to walk on. Someone will give Acosta a scholarship and he will likely take it. Coaches are just shooting high for a walk on.

Look for Vandy to offer Acosta. If he does not take it, they will move to Nick Pollard of FAther Ryan. If he too declines, they will take Christian Kauffman of MUS.

FRHS....woohoo! I don't see my alma mater's name on the recruiting board too often.

Acosta is a very solid FG kicker. Does not have Palardy's range, but is very accurate from 40-45 yds and in.

Palardy will no doubt handle kickoff duties. Having a solid FG kicker would allow Palardy to punt (which he also excels at) in addition to kickoffs and allow a kid like Acosta the oportunity to kick extra points and most FG's. While Palardy is very talented at each of these positions, doing all of them every game could take its toll.

That said, I do not think they will pursue anyone outside of Acosta and he will not get a scholarship offer.

With hope the offer does nothing. Vandy is the only one if they offer he has to take. I think he will walk-on with hope unless Vandy offers.

Can he get a scholarship for something else like grades and still be a walk on?

What would prevent you from doing that? I am not sure what the thought is? Hope is a guarantee if you have grades. You can play football with it. I mean unless there is some rule I have not heard?

Edit: Are you thinking about rules regarding players getting faux academic schollys that are really athletic? Hope is not something that can be faked if you have gpa you get it there is nothing subjective about it.

I was seeing if he could get one for grades and still be a walk on. Didn't know if there was a rule against that or not. Figured there wasn't but was just checking to see.

I think that it depends on the particular scholarship whether or not it is counted towards the limit. If it is something like HOPE, I do not think that it is, but if it is a institutional scholarship, then I believe it counts against you.

I think that Acosta will end up with a offer good enough that it will out weigh walking on in the end.

Southern Miss offered yesterday as well.......they want him to come in and start from day one...

That's a really good offer for him. I knew he would get some decent offers.

Post more, Blur. People around here really appreciate your insight.
