'10 K Corey Acosta

Blur, I think the instate talent looks much better for next year. I'd be interested to see your mock top 10 or so.

this is how I would rank them right now
1. Antonio Richardson OL Ensworth- Has a TN offer, will be one of the most highly regarded players in South
2. Jabriel Washington ATH- Already has numerous offers including TN. UGA and LSU along with TN appear schools to beat
3. Devrin Young ATH Bearden- Holds an offer from Stanford. Hearing from Oregon, LSU, Alabama really strong. LSU is recruiting him as a DB. Other schools showing interest include, UGA, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Texas A&M, UVA, Duke, Cincy, Nebraska, Nortwestern, GT, AUB among several others. All the schools have invited him to games. I would say Stanford, Oregon and LSU are the teams to beat right now. Hasn't heard from Tennessee really at all.
4. Terry Redden-DT Whitehaven. Has an offer from Clemson. Hearing from Bama, some other SEC schools
5. Artaves Gibson RB Mitchell- The only top 5 prospect who hasnt gotten an offer at this point. Could have something to do with a knee injury he suffered late last year.
6. Hunter Long OL Briarcrest- Has a Memphis offer and very good bloodlines. Will be highly recruited.
7. Jeremiah Bryson RB Smyrna- Has an offer from UNC. Is hearing from SEC schools as well.
8. Chris Sensabaugh RB KSDB- Has an offer from Clemson. Hearing from SEC, ACC schools.
9. Jake Overby QB USJ- IMO is the top rated QB in the state, but its close. Hearing from SEC schools, Big 12 schools.
10. Aaron Bryant LB Hillsboro- If he can keep his off the field stuff together he will play big time D-1 football....

I can't believe that UT isn't on this kid. He looked awesome at camp.

UAb, Army, MTSU at this point...with schools like Clemson and Vandy showing interest...this one puzzles me....this kid should have more attention and offers than he has.......

easily has been the state's best RB the last two years..

I kind of felt like he may be the guy we ended up with if Dyer and Brown fell through. I liked his film and his #'s are great. But maybe not....

GoVols2003, a few things you are incorrect on. Acosta was 2 for 3 kickoffs in the MUS game one was fro 68 yards the other was 63 yards. The one he didn't kick in the endzone was a squib kick after CBHS scored and there was three seconds left to go. You are right Corey is not 5'11. He is 6'1 with shoes on and 6'0 with shoes off. Also, he has plenty of length on field goals. His long in a game is 49 and his long in practice is 63. He can handle long field goals but like any kicker is most accurate at 50 and under.

I'd listen to this guy...he knows his stuff...

Dr. J is him walking on out of the question? Also does Corey punt?

I would love to see the kid at UT but I don't see how you can take two kickers with all these 4 and 5 star kids waiting on offers. But that being said we have to get the kicking game fixed and if taking two kickers would do that I would be all for it. But I don't see it happening.....

preferred walk-on with redshirt and shot at the scholarship left when Lincoln and Cunningham leave. It would be great to have him. Palardy KOs, punts, and long field goals, with Acosta kicking the short fgs.

Look at Plardy's stats on short field goals and PAT. He is amazingly accurate and short field goals are automatic. None of these teams play the competition in or outside of state that STA plays. Palardy is college ready in all aspects of the game. You will get to see him in the AAA game in January. I saw him kick two into the back of the endzone the other night into a 25-30 mile an hour wind. With the wind he hit it 10-15 yards out of the end zone. Check the weather in Florida over the last week and a half...hurricane gusts. This is one big foot! He will be playing on TV this Friday night at 8 eastern on CBS. I think it is CBS...Max Preps game against Cypress Bay.

We were surprised but thats okay. Christian Kaufman, Andrew Fletcher, and Nick Pollard are all good friends of Corey's and are well deserving. They are all great kids and great kickers. Corey is disappointed and as a competitor he should be. Whether he is deserving or not that is up to others to decide. I will say if you look at Corey's stats comparatively he certainly compares favorably with the other 3 kickers.

Corey does have a preferred walk on spot at Tennessee and is certainly considering his options. He also has a preferred spot at Georgia. He does have two full offers now from Southern Miss and Memphis. We will certainly let things play out with Memphis and will take an official to Southern Miss and we are planning on taking one to Memphis also but I guess that depends on the new staff. Tennessee is due to visit with us in December and after that if he has no other offers than he will probalby decide.

I will say this about Corey and Tennessee. He is not afraid of competition. He will get it wherever he goes and expects that at a top program like Tennessee.

Guys, we have a kicker already. We def won't use 2 schollys on kickers. Palardy can handle KO duties and FG duties. We can pick up a punter next year, but Palardy can do that too.

We do not need a kicker for short FG and another one for long FG. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The guy's a kicker. If he can't kick them at all distances, he doesn't need a D-1 scholarship.

That having been said.... I'd welcome him to walk-on at anytime haha...

He would have been a great walk-on or grayshirt, but I would hate to use 2 scholly's on kickers in one class. We can get another Acosta next class...if we need one.

Well put. We def could use Acosta next year, but we just need too many other players and too many other positions. We just have to hope that Paladry can stay healthy and perform up to expectations for us next year. We all know what will happen otherwise...
