I think he will play where we need him the most. if we need a Kiffin LB then so be it. But I think he will be a Toney williams and be a forgotten player until he blows up. terrible to hear about Toney. I think he would of been great this year.

Their seems to be alot of similarities between Hester and Fugate, at least for coming out of high school. On paper, Fugate looks to be a better prospect. He dominates Hester's on field production, he is 4 inches taller, 10 pounds lighter, and has a higher GPA...

Hesters stats may not have been as good, but LA football is infinitely better than KY football. Physically though, he looks to be better.

Here's all the info I can find on Fugate. Below is from different Rivals articles...

Breathitt County running back Channing Fugate, who ran 279 times for 3,052 yards and 36 touchdowns will be in attendance. Fugate was a first-team, all-state selection, the first junior to be named so since Victor Anderson of St. Xavier in 2005.

He lead the Bobcats to the Class 3A state championship game, where they fell to Louisville Central.

"I started off slow, so I think I could've had a better year than I actually had," he said. "I started off real bad. I picked it up about the fourth game. From there on, I was pretty good. I feel like I can get more yards next year, if I just play the whole season. The first game, I had two, tight rib protectors. That cut my air off. Then, the third game, I was fine, but I still didn't really have a good game. Then, the fourth game was my record game for me. From there on, I started doing good."

"I'm pretty big - 6-2, 230 - and as a running back, I think I can run inside or outside," said Fugate, who claims 4.6-type speed. "I have the size to run inside, but I feel like I have the speed to get outside."

But because of that size and speed, his college position might not be so clear.

Fugtae wouldn't even care if they moved him to defense. "I can play either side of the line. I really don't care. I just want to play. I want to try running back first, but after that if they want to move me to defense, it won't bother me much."

Fugate has improved his forty time from last year's 4.7 to a 4.6 this spring. His coach at Breathitt County, Mike Holcomb, contributed the drop in time to hard work. "Channing is always working at getting better. You won't many that will outwork him. He has really been hitting the weight room."

Channing Fugate has some good hands out of the backfield and great size that should allow him to move down to a fullback or H-back position and be a variable that defensive coordinators will not enjoy dealing with.

This ^ evaluation came from when he was a standout performer at the June 3rd UT camp...

"I don't know that Tennessee knew who I was a month or two ago," Fugate said. "My coach and I sent them a highlight tape and they called my coach and told him they liked what they saw on tape and wanted to see me in person at camp."

From today's VQ story...

3,000 yards rushing in his junior year? Didn't Travis Henry have 3,000 or so in one year in high school?

Here's what Scout has had to say on him in 2 different articles...

"Going to the state championships helped a lot. We didn't win, but I guess a lot of coaches saw me there. I've been getting film out, just trying to get people to notice me."

"I think it would be cool if Tennessee or somebody like Penn State or Ohio State contacted me. They're pretty close and are good programs."

Another school near the top of Fugate’s list is Tennessee.

“I went down to Tennessee’s camp this past Tuesday,” Fugate said. “I did pretty good and they said they might want to offer but they might want me to commit first, so I’m kind of confused now on what to do. I think I might have to go back down there and check it out again."

“If they were to offer, they’d be up pretty high on my list and maybe at the top, because they’re so close to me. It’s only like a three-hour drive to Tennessee and it’s a pretty good program I’d have to consider a lot.”

“I’m going to go to Tennessee again on the 18th, I think,” Fugate said. “I’m going to try to get up to Illinois and Purdue one more time and then, after that, I really don’t know. I also might try to get to Indiana whenever I go up to Illinois and Purdue, because they’re all pretty close.”

ESPNs evaluation of Fugate...

Fugate is a big and physical runningback and strong safety that could easily end up as an outside linebacker at the next level. He has great size and good speed for his competition. A true north-south runner that is straight line explosive. Not a lot of shake and bake but generates power with his strong and powerful legs. Runs through arm tackles and hits and spins to pick up extra yardage. Maintains balance and body control even after being hit in traffic. Can pull away from would-be tacklers even though doesn't possess tremendous speed. Demonstrates the vision to make the one big cut or bounce the football to the perimeter. Uses the straight arm technique at times to keep tacklers off his body. A tough defensive back that hits the same way he runs; aggressively and with intensity. Runs through offensive blockers to make a play on the ball carrier. A physical tackler that punishes the ball carrier and finishes the play; must be careful to wrap up at all times. Sometimes gets so aggressive that he wants to take the runners head off with the forearm. Very alert and reactive defensive player. Fugate has the skills, size and athletic ability to play either side of the ball at the next level. He is a competitive and confident football player.

ESPN has graded Fugate as a 77. Just for reference ESPN graded Marlon Walls, Mike Edwards, and Daniel hood all as a 77 and Jose Jose and montori hughes as a 75...

not to tick anyone off...but this kid kind of reminds me of Tebow in shape size and speed. If you watch any of his videos he really does look like a Tebow out there (of course not as a QB). Anyone agree?

Just like Jacob Hester who started for LSU over Charles Scott and other 4/5 star backs, I think Channing can carve his own niche on this UT football team as well. The best way to do so is probably to establish himself as a great blocker and most dependable backs in the short yardage situations.

This kids got some good speed. He does remind you a lot of Hester who was only a 2 star by BTW. Looks like a good pickup.

every white FB/RB is the next big hearted, hard working, gritty alstott.
Because there are no lazy white FB's out there.
Why even compare him to Hester or Alstott. The only thing thats similar is they are wonderbread players.

He is 4 inches taller and 10 pds lighter than hester so you cant even compare them.

Typical early stage praise heaping session. Then the f-bombs come when he misses a block that gets Scroggins (slight finger-crossing moment) killed.

All kidding aside he does look like a solid player with good measurables. He can definitely run well for a projected FB/H-back, but as mentioned the KY football landscape is not all that spectacular.

Someone better add the line about how his stock should be increasing and will be bumped up to a 4-star. Seems like we only recruit those kids who are only increasing their stock in recruiting service rankings lol.
