'10 LA QB Benton "Munchie" Legaux

Height doesn't matter. 5'9 is one thing. 6'0 and taller is right in the wheelhouse.

At lot of the shorter QB's have issues being pocket passers, unless they are moved out on the edge away from the O-Line. Too many batted balls.

Linemen on both sides of the ball are still taller, on average, than most QBs. If a kid is 6'0 and can play, I'll take him over the 6'4 guy who can't.

That's big risk in the SEC. Shorter Qb's seem to have more trouble in the SEC than the taller ones. I'm not saying they can't be effective, but I don't think they can be AS effective if they were 2-3 inches taller.

A lot of people neglect QBs because of height and I just don't see it, and never will. 6'4 QBs still have trouble seeing over 6'6 linemen. Regardless, Without seeing film, I like Munchie's completion percentage. 70%? Great. He's accurate. Accuracy = poise. I'd like to see some situations where he is throwing in the red zone. Or on third down or the 4th quarter (situations where the D knows you're throwing). Heard his footwork isn't great, release is quick though. Needs some meat. Hope he commits.

the kid is the real deal, i promise you that. its almost gona be scarey to see what this staff can do with munchie, we have talked about his mechanics, when they are worked on he is gona be something to watch. and id put money on it.

heres a little hint when evaluating film of players that might not make sense to some, but the first time you watch the film ignore the player and watch his team mates, then go back and watch him. and then watch it again, and a few more times.

maybe just maybe, he could help us pull in reed, ive said it beofe and ill say it again, id put that louisana talent up against any state in the nation. (except amahd paige)

I guess I'd be a little concerned with a diamond in the rough qb in the 2010 class, because I think we would need to get them on the field that first year. If this guy is in need of bulking up and ironing out rough mechanics, then that would seem to point toward redshirt year ... can we afford to do that for qb position at this time?

Well with talk of JOCO Lamaison signing it would probably work out fine with Legaux.

That's why it's the O-line's job to open passing lanes. There have been countless qb's that aren't tall in college that have had zero issues.

If there are no passing lanes to throw through it really doesn't matter if your 6'1 or 6'3 you are going to get balls knocked down at the line.

Munchie can at least be a situational QB, for Redzone schemes and 3rd and long situations...as a Freshman. He doesn't have to have the entire offense down in order to have some sort of impact.

Could you imagine having to defend your goal line with him, Bryce Brown and Nuke in the backfield?

Wing span on taller QB's is almost always longer and therefore is a factor in a Pro-Style QB effectiveness. That's another reason Boyd isn't with us.

Of course.

But it is still the o-line's job to open passing lanes. On a three-step drop if they don't punch the d-lineman in the gut and keep his hands down the ball is going to get knocked regardless if the guy is 6'1 or 6'3.

I never said it wasn't a factor but not enough to where a staff is going to recruit a tall qb and a short qb.

Right. If it were such a big deal to have a 6'1 QB, we wouldn't be recruiting 6'8 linemen.

QBs just arent situational. You aren't going to pull the guy out who led you all the way down the field.

About the closest thing you'll see is when OSU puts Pryor in as a WR near the goal line and has the backup coming in.

Just watched the video on him and though I didnt read through all the posts, the most impressive thing about him to ME was his ability to hit receivers on the roll out and on the run. Sorry for joining the party late, Ive been on the Scroggins bandwagon til now...hope theres still room on this train now. :dance2:

Why are we going after a Dual-Threat QB?

This was a post by JB on Scout last night. Chad Simmons is Scout's top recruiting analyst in the South...

One thing that Chad Simmons brought to our chat this morning is the fact that he feels Munchie is more of a true pocket passer than he is a dual threat guy. He is going to be rated one of the TOP 10 QBs in the nation.
