'10 LA QB Benton "Munchie" Legaux

We got to wait for Scroggins. Does not sound like the other guys were that impressive

Munchie was not mentioned at all in the QB running for MVP. Maybe he is not all the hype. Rees Rettig and Brunetti were the stud performers

Muchie needs at least a year to red shirt to put on weight, throws a nice ball and has good arm.

- James Bryant...

I don't think Munchie did bad. He just didn't wow anybody either...
Rees and Rettig are the guys who are coming out of here on the highest note. Hopefully, one of them will turn into a stud...

As I've said previously, this is a guy that I think the coaches will stop pursuing after camp. He failed to impress anyone present. I repeatedly said that he would have to come out and really prove himself at this camp to garner an offer as a QB and he failed at that. I have a feeling we will look in a different direction.

Thanks, Sab. I'm a little behind on my VN reading!

Who are our top 2 or 3 QB prospects now?

I think we need to wait and see who gets offered after the coaches have an opportunity to look at tape to really determine that. Obviously Heaps and Scroggins are at the top of the wishlist, but it gets a little jumbled after that. Chase Rettig certainly made a case for himself today

May have been posted before, but has he ever taken a snap under center? Is he T. Boyd lite?

I like him athletically and I think he can be an SEC athlete who plays a different position. I am no coach nor am I an evaluator, but he didn't show me the arm strength or skills to be a qb in the SEC.
Hubbs

Hubbs is a talent scout?

Everyone that observed camp said that Legaux looked terrible. It's not just Brent pulling it out of his ass.

So you think Jesse is our number 1 QB we are going after?

I think he's the top guy that is a realistic possibility to come here. There are probably QBs that they think more highly of, but they are either committed (Phillip Sims) or headed elsewhere. (Jake Heaps)

terrible? I haven't read one quote that said he looked terrible. I've actually read where some people said he needs work but had a ton of potential. We get it...you don't want this guy at quarterback. He's not at the top of my list either, but this is getting really old.

Rivals has him listed as a 4 star QB. The guy can play.

If he's not at the top of your list then why are arguing with me? It's not about me or what I want. I have said repeatedly that the coaches don't think highly of Legaux and after today's performance I'm sure that sealed the deal. I'm just pointing out the idiocy of the people who argued with that. I was 100% right and all of you that were calling me an idiot for saying it are sitting there with egg on your face.

The kid is a project, but he has the potential to be a star. I'd actually like to sign him as a QB and let him know that he could get moved to another position. Give him the Star Jackson treatment.

Coach, I am not wrong about anything I was simply repeating what the scouts said about him and that he had an offer from UT. You need to talk to the people at the UGA NIke combine, the New Orleans combine (where Munchie was MVP), CHad Simmons of Scout, and Tom Lemming about them being wrong...

Honestly, besides Hubbs, nobody else is saying he did that bad. The question of his arm strength is a joke. Hubbs pulled that one out of nowhere...

Regardless, Munchie clearly did not show UT what he did at the previous 2 combines. He might have crumbled under the pressure...
You clearly said that you expected Legaux to really show up at camp and he did not. I told you that I anticipated a poor performance and said over and over again that the coaches wouldn't pursue this guy and that he was nowhere near #3 on their board. That is what you argued with and it had nothing to do with the individuals you mentioned outside of the fact that you mistakenly went with their word and I went by what I clearly saw on film. You misjudged. It's okay. Just admit it.

After a few years in a S&C program, he has the chance to really excel in a spread-style offense, as I've said all along.

Here's my take....

Munchie, obviously, had a bad showing. Maybe it was nerves, maybe he was pressing, maybe the receivers and he didn't communicate well. There are a lot of reason he didn't show as well as he could today. Let me say this though, there is a reason that he has an offer to play QB here, and that's like everyone else, potential. He won't start as a freshman and honestly I don't think that anyone that is recruited here will, but I would be willing to bet that things are going to be fine with him. Are there other QB's out there better, sure, but you don't complete 68% of your passes and not be somewhat accurate overall. Sounds like the the entire camp honestly, with a few exceptions, was pretty average.

Where has it been confirmed that he has an offer to play QB here?

Here's the info on Munchie from anyone except Hubbs...

There were no qbs good enough for UT that fit the system IMO, except possibly munchie.

- Kevin Scott...

Munchie has a very strong arm but accuracy has been a problem at times.

-James Bryant...

Tigerbait had an article on May 12th, Scout has had a few articles. There have been more than one. I just get the feeling Sab that you don't like this guy, that's kinda the feeling I get because some of your posts on him have been kinda pretentious based on the fact that you don't think he can play QB. He's moving up most if not all recruiting services boards, but you still don't think that he is good enough. That's your opinion, of course, but I don't think that most share it that are out there in the field evaluating these guys. Hell, for that matter I don't agree with them either on some prospects. That's why we get paid the big bucks my friend. :)
