'10 LA QB Benton "Munchie" Legaux

Tigerbait had an article on May 12th, Scout has had a few articles. There have been more than one. I just get the feeling Sab that you don't like this guy, that's kinda the feeling I get because some of your posts on him have been kinda pretentious based on the fact that you don't think he can play QB. He's moving up most if not all recruiting services boards, but you still don't think that he is good enough. That's your opinion, of course, but I don't think that most share it that are out there in the field evaluating these guys. Hell, for that matter I don't agree with them either on some prospects. That's why we get paid the big bucks my friend. :)

I don't like the guy in our offense. I don't think he is a QB that the coaches would actually accept a commitment from, lest it be at a different position. He could go to a spread offense and maybe have a good career. He just won't do it here.

So you still contend that he is #3 on the UT board? You actually think this guy has a shot to play QB here? Yes, or no?

It's not a matter right now that he can play here or not, it's IF he comes can he transition to a more pro-style offense and go under center. Most people think so that are evaluating this guy, but what's sad is that most of the QB's in this class operate primarily out of the Shotgun in HS. I'm not sure that really anyone in this class can do that effectively.

Good look at the film on most of the guys that are being recruited this year. They all play in some form or fashion of a spread offense. I am pretty sure of that anyways.

That doesn't make any sense, Eric. James Bryant, Brent Hubbs and the mysterious Volfan X all said that he had to come to camp and prove he could be a QB at this level to earn an offer to play QB. He clearly did not earn that by every indication. He wasn't even one of the top 3 QBs present and two other guys we've barely heard about beat him out. It's pretty cut and dry.

He was my #3, I didn't say he was UT's. I think he still has a shot, but he has hurt chances. I don't think this 1 performance should cancel out his other 2 good performance's. He definitely has ground to make up now...

So since Brunetti was considered one of the best, do you think he can transition?? That's kinda the thing, most of the QB's this year are considered Dual-Threat in nature because of the offenses they operate out of. A true QB can do either, and we won't know who can do that the best until they get to campus.

Hopefully, if he isn't our #3 QB target now (which I'm not 100% convinced he isn't already), he will be after camp. I don't think anyone has seen him throw in person except Frank Wilson have they? That's purty impressive to get an offer without being seen in person by CLK, Chaney, or Reaves...
So it's after camp now? Is he?

Your arguments seems to stem from him being a Dual Threat, which in a post I just stated, most of the QB's in this class are in that category. Even your boy Hendrix is in the same category.

Negatory. The reason Hendrix is rated as a Pro-style prospect is that he is a much more developed passer and has the ideal frame and size to be a pro style passer. He can run, sure, but he is a pro style prospect. Hendrix is waay ahead of Legaux as a passer as were Brunetti, Rettig, and Rees today at camp. Legaux is a dual-threat QB fit for a spread offense.

Is it possible to know one way or the other? If they want him as a QB they'll get him. If they don't, they'll give him the Tajh Boyd speech and he'll be on his way. We'll know what they think when he either commits or his recruiting cools off.

Brunetti feels that he can fit into the scheme at UT. He sounds motivated to be the QB at UT. He would be an interesting pick up, but his height is a real issue. We are looking for that 6'3 plus QB with a big arm. Brunetti has had the Brees comparisons, however he is still shorter than Brees.

You think he's a Dual-Threat that won't do anything other than fit in a spread offense. Guess that settles it. West Virginia, Miss. St., and Michigan are his destinations then. :hi:

I think Brunetti would be fine in this offense, personally. He has a strong arm, throws a clean spiral, can make all the throws, and has a "pro style" throwing motion already. Solid mechanics. The only knock is his height.

You can bring anyone in, but it still begs to be answered that can they and will they put in the work to go under center and become effective?? That's the real question.

That's a little too definitive for me at this point. Really strong statement there Sab that they have already made that evaluation. I think they have made the evaluation though that they don't like just 1 particular QB in this class because none of them are put together like the one they really want.
