'10 NY PF Tobias Harris

There is a "Hot News Update" On Tobias on Scout that says he visited an SEC school today...anyone know if that was us? I don't know if a subscriber can get this or not, but this visit could mean a lot.

Two steps forward, one step back with Bruce Pearl. Losing players isn't always something you can control either. It's too bad 5* Ramar Smith and 5* Duke Crews pissed away their careers. Then losing 4* Emmanuel Negedu to heart problems and 4* Phillip Jurick not fitting the system. That's some pretty big blows to overcome.

Off topic, is it official that Negedu's basketball career is over? I feel bad for him if it is but hopefully he gets back to full health. That's more important.

Gone: Ty smith, Chism, Maze, JP, Scotty Hopson (early entry to pro's)

Btw: how awesome would it be for our program if we got 4 ppl drafted?!

4 of these kids drafted... NOOO WAY! We'll be LUCKY with 2! Tyler Smith is a definite first rounder, but all the rest are questionable at best! Hopson, besides Smith, out of the group has the best chance, but I still think he needs to add muscle to his frame and work on his penetration skills! I wouldn't be surprised if Scotty stays one more year...

Tobias wrapped up his Georgia Tech visit early today and then made his way to Knoxville, Tennessee. He watched Tennessee dismantle UNC-Asheville by a score of 124-49.

"I just felt like watching them play and it was only two hours from Georgia Tech," the big man explained.

Harris, who has not returned home yet, says he still plans to sit down with his family and make his college decision. He shot down rumors that he had already committed to the Volunteers or that he was ready to commit.

"I was in Knoxville, but I am not committed to Tennessee. I still have to talk everything with my family."

I told him that rumors were circulating that he had chosen Tennessee and he simply stated, "No, that is not true."

He still plans to make his announcement Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

"No favorite yet," he said. "I'm still taking a final look at all the schools."

I asked him to tell me what stands out to him about each school on his final list:

- Syracuse: "The style of play and their facilities"

- Kentucky: "The fans and the atmosphere"

- Tennessee: "The passion of the coaches"

- Louisville: "The individual instruction and their work ethic"

- West Virginia: "Coach Huggins getting the best out of his guys"

- Maryland: "The campus and school itself"

- Georgia Tech: "The city of Atlanta and the school's academics"

I know he would never admit to committing before his ceremony, but still very scared now. I was so happy and pumped an hour ago and now I a lot more nervous. Most people on Syracuse board are saying hes coming to UT, but one said he has told every one he has eliminated in person.

Doubt thats why he came here, but still.

Also the Tennessee home crowd did nothing to impress him. Im a student (from the north) and this is what I hate about UT. NO ONE CARES ABOUT BBALL! Had to BEG people to go to a free game (as a student) and all but one said no. The old farts that are given center court seats were no where to be found. I know hes probably not too worried about it because he is looking for best route to pros, but if I were him I would not want to go play in an empty gym (all he has seen of Thompson Boling) and would be very intrigued by a sold out practice in Kentucky for Midnight Madness. Don't get me wrong I hate Kentucky, but being unbiased from New York is different.

Very nervous.....(hopefully im just being paranoid)

You need to check your facts, UT was 4th in the nation in average attendence. Only Kensucky, UNC & Syracuse averaged more! It was an early season, tuesday night game against an obvious chump!

Im talking about attendance, not ticket sales. Those numbers are inflated. I go to every game and the average attendance for not ranked games is low.

Don't take my word for it. Go to an unranked game and look a round.Specifically the student section.

Not to mention we have the 5th largest stadium.

The fact is we have the 4th best attendance. When the sec schedule comes up the place will be packed. There's a lot of places that people won't go to see UNCA play anybody on a Tuesday night during the season. I understand your point and wish we could get the arena packed for every game, but thats just the way early season bball is unless you are playing somebody worth a crap.

LOL @ these UK Basketball writers stalking these high school kids. Talk about an obsessed demonic fan base. Scary really.

There is no doubt there is passion for the bball team here. Way more since Bruce came along than there ever was before. I think what isn't being said here, though, is that football season is still going on. And a 7-5 football team in the first year of this staff is going to beat out the first garbage time games of the season in bball no matter what. A lot of the focus of Tennessee fans is just with the football program right now. Football will always reign, no matter what.

EDIT: Tell me fans aren't showing up when Memphis comes to Knoxville next season, or when Florida & Kentucky come this season. You think that place won't be rocking when Kansas comes to Ktown on January 10? Please. That place will fill out in no time.

Exactly right. The Kansas game has been sold out since the tickets went on sale. Thompson Boling Arena will be rockin that day

Are we really bragging that we can sell tickets and fill seats for rivalry games?
No, but the point is that these are the big games that fans in the SEC are going to come out for and get up for. The bottom line is that when you are talking about an SEC school that is/has been a perennial football power the passion for football is never going to be as high in basketball. You are not going to sell out every game. It is never going change in the SEC, specifically. We are probably never going to have as consistent an atmosphere and fan turnout for bball as teams like Kentucky, UConn, UNC, Duke, Georgetown, almost any Midwest school and on and on and on.

The recruits know that coming in. Period. They aren't stupid. So to think that is any more a hit on our chances at getting him than it was when we started recruiting him is ridiculous to me. And to be that way and still be in this kid's top 2 (theoretically) makes the job Pearl and his staff have done even more unbelievable. I just don't think people not showing out for a crappy UNC-Asheville bball game really affects his decision in the end.

I will assure you that every other school uses ticket sales and inflates their numbers too. Point is that UT does have the 4th highest attendance figure of all of the colleges in the NCAA. I'm sure a few other schools would place above UT if they had larger arenas, but you can't discount his point by saying the numbers are inflated...

yeah UNCA looked awful, but regardless... they were picked to finish second in their conference... maybe WERE JUST THAT GOOD.

TOBIAS, IF UR READING THIS... WE NEED YOU.

Heres why:

Gone: Ty smith, Chism, Maze, JP, Scotty Hopson (early entry to pro's)

TOBIAS, you WILL get the ball, and WILL start! COME HEREEEEE!!!! syracuse smells funny, isnt as warm as Kville ( same with Uconn ) and huggy bear might leave WV for no reason if some other job opens up, ask M Beasley.

Thats all i have to say

NOT gonna happen. If he leaves for the NBA after this season, he's committing career suicide. After the 2010-11 season I could maybe see. Not this year.
