I really like the sound of this. I hope it's the case. Surely they are aware of each others mutual interest by now. It seems that neither of them are scared about the other. If they both decide that Tennessee is the best place for them, I think they would both commit and be ready to compete. As I like to sum up the appeal of our QB depth chart to 2010 recruits: there isn't another team in D-1 where a true freshman QB has as good of an opportunity to win the starting job on a team with as much upside as Tennessee
We haven't seen that crucial QB commit yet because it is a scary leap of faith Kiffin is asking these QB recruits to make. I read earlier today that the coaches are telling recruits Tennessee will be competing for championships again in 2 to 3 years. I think Kiffin has a good chance to turn things around as quickly as Saban did at Bama and keep his word with those lofty goals, if we can get off to a good start this year. That would give us tons of momentum on the recruiting trail heading into the offseason. Plus Florida will finally lose Tim Titty Tebow and some of the pieces of that veteran D. UGA is probably going to gain the most ground in the SEC East from 2009 to 2010. But for 2011 and on, UT's staff will not only be on a level playing field with the recruiting class for the first time, but the cupboards should be well on their way to being restocked with talent as Kiffin's third and fourth recruiting classes roll in.
Our staff hopes to make TN relevant again on the national scale in a very short period of time. They're going to attack that goal just like everything else: come up with a solid game plan and bust your ass harder than everyone else to make it happen. Never say quit, never say die. Work until you get the job done. They know what they want and how to get it. They will not be denied.
Kiffin came in and hired what I biasedly consider to be the best staff in the nation. Worked true miracles with the '09 recruiting class. Has absolutely put Tennessee back on the map nationally with his "antics." And coincidentally (hmm maybe not!) there is unprecedented interest in Tennessee in the 2010 recruiting class. He has demolished every obstacle in his path and I have full faith that Kiffin will continue exceeding expectations on the field this season and with the dramatic overhaul of the football program from mediocrity to being competitive on a championship level every season.
Even if Kiffin has rubbed you the wrong was as a fan (seriously though, grow a pair), you HAVE to love the attitude and work ethic these guys bring to the table every day. True professionals. It's exciting to be a part of.
Sorry for the mini-novel.
The CliffsNotes: Kiffin knows what he is doing.
