'10 OH QB Andrew Hendrix

You are forgetting the coaches' part in that decision. If Lane and co tell Hendrix to hold off announcing until they feel that they are good with a Heaps or Scroggins type player he will do it.

This coaching staff tell the prospects when they can pledge a public commit, not the other way around as I understand it. They have a hierarchy of doing things and this is one of them.

Then that may be the very case... That was just what I took out of the conversation. Who knows, he could be Rex's favorite type of recruit... "The Silent Commit"

No, the bump rule is still in effect. Can't be face to face contact.

I dont think this is true. Directly from the NCAA Rules Book

Unavoidable Incidental Contact. An unavoidable incidental contact made with a prospective studentathlete
by representatives of the institution’s athletics interests, provided the contact is not prearranged
by the representative or an athletics department staff member, does not take place on the grounds of the
prospective student-athlete’s educational institution or at the sites of organized competition and practice
involving the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s team (high school, preparatory
school, two-year college or all-star team), is not made for the purpose of recruitment of the prospective
student-athlete, and involves only normal civility.

Rule 13.1.2.2 General exceptions to Off campus recruiting

That's the "bump" rule I think he's referring to.

Incidental contact should result in an exchange of pleasantries and nothing more. It's broken all the time though.

I know what the Bump rule is. It was implied, at least as I read it, that not even incidental pleasantries could be exchanged without it being a violation of some sort.

I'd be twice as comfortable with Newton as our starting QB next (2010) year then letting one of the freshmen develop or sign an even bigger stud in the 2011 class - which probably is a better QB class.

We will still sign a top prospect next year. Newton, Stephens, Hendrix, and Scroggins. Still an attractive situation for a QB. We should sign one every year especially if we start to have success.

Yeah - but if we were to whiff on Scroggins and Heaps. Hendrix and Newton wouldn't be bad. We'd still probably get the same production out of Newton that we would from a highly touted inexperienced freshman and possibly more - then sign a big guy the next class.

I agree totally. I still think we can sign two quarterbacks in this class besides Newton. Hendrix and maybe even a guy we haven't heard of yet.

I think that is the key. Once these kids get into camps, are evaluated by coaches, and begin thier seasons this fall, there will be names come to the forefront that nobody has heard of yet.

Newton starting for the Vols for 2 years, then Hendrix coming in as a redshirt sophmore sounds purty good to me...

Looks pretty good upgraded to 4* and doesn't seem to mind tucking and running. Video does not show him throwing deep much, but when he does looks pretty good.Scroggins throws the best deep ball, but in Kiffins offense I'm not sure how important that is. He can lower his shoulder and rattle teeth. Has good pocket presense and can avoid the rush. Smart kid from a good program,I would like to see him along with Scroggins or Heaps! But if we miss on those two I would gladly take him,Rivals has him rated one spot behind Heaps. Big senior season could have his stock going through the roof!

and never forget the Hostess's :run:

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but Hendrix stated in his rivals interview that he was looking to be an orthopedic doctor....that's nice and all, but it doesn't sound like a kid with NFL aspirations.

Not sure how much major D-1 football will jive with the rigorous course load he'll have. I remember taking an anatomy class in college, and it was information overload for the whole semester...most challenging course I ever took. I can just imagine, smart or not, how difficult it will be when he's a junior and senior taking upper level courses

If he can't handle that, then it's doubtful he'll be able to handle professional school, anyway. I'm sure the schedulers will help him arrange everything so he's taking his more difficult classes in the spring and summer.

Kinda reminds me of the tOSU QB (Krinsle?) who majored in molecular bio or something crazy like that. But he made it through school fine and beat the U in the Championship game.

I think it's after the summer. They have to be in school and be Seniors to have direct contact with them I believe. Not 100% for sure on that though.

this is accurate. only contact at all until senior year is at a camp on the institutions campus

"My summer is going to be more centered around camps to places where I am interested in going. I want to go to those places to see how I fit in. Before the offers, I was going to go to some camps trying to show myself to get an offer, now I want to see how I fit in with those schools who have offered me."

"I want and need to see some other schools," Hendrix said. "I would like to commit sooner rather than later. I want to focus on my team and trying to win a state title. I think it's wrong as a senior and leader for me to be focused on college that is not fair to my team. Also I want to be a commitment who helps recruit and so the sooner I commit somewhere the more I can help."
