'10 OK ATH Demarco Cobbs

I would be happy with Cobbs over going through another recruiting battle with a kid that grew up a USC fan. Cobbs, Ambles, and Milton are a good combo of speed, size, and athleticism.

Besides Cobbs being a versitle athlete that can do everything on offense, it seems he has the strength and athleticism not to be jammed at the line of scrimmage. That is the only think I worry about this year with Nuke.

Also, Nu'keese will be in his second year by the time Cobbs arrived and would most likely have game experience. Would make it hard for Cobbs to beat him out. Milton/Ambles or Prater on the outside will also be hard to beat out. Kiffin loves height and Cobbs isn't as tall as these guys nor does he have a good vertical according to his numbers. His vertical is actually really really bad.

He will not be competing with Nuke to get on the field. They are not the same type of WR. He will not be competing that much with Milton at WR either. His main competition would be Ambles. Let's compare the two and you tell me who looks better on paper:

Markeith Ambles
6-2, 182, 4.58
Vertical: 29 inches
Bench: 230lbs
Squat: unknown
Shuttle: 4.28

Demarco Cobbs
6-2, 205, 4.5
Vertical: 32 inches
Bench: 305lbs
Squat: 400lbs
Shuttle: 4.6 (from Rivals)

What is throwing you off is the first Rivals combine that Cobbs ever went to. He did not perform well. Since then, he has done very good. I would suggest getting your info from Scout...

Receivers know that the more quality targets the are the less focus the DB's can put on them. Key is getting a great QB who can spread the ball around. We are piecing it all together just kind of in reverse order!

Obviously best case is we get both and then we can know for sure we have the best players on the field. Yes I know our coaches are good but some high rated players obviously don't pan out. Thats why USC for example when they stockpile all these highly rated kids, they're almost guaranteed they will have 22 guys that will be as good as projected.

But is he as good a route runner or pass catcher as ambles...dont think so. Nonetheless Id still love to have him.

Catching passes is the one big knock on Ambles. He loses concentration and drops some balls...

I just want everyone to know that I would rather have Ambles too. Look at my avatar. His talent is off the charts and that shuttle time is ridiculous. But it isn't just an open and shut case. Cobbs looks like he could make an impact sooner...

I thought one of his praises in the videos Ive seen is they talk about how he "makes the catch with his hands, not his body." I guess I cant translate that into "hes a good pass catcher." lol...my bad.

His route running is insane though, just makes fools look silly.

I prefer rivals over scouts. They've done a better job predicting in my opinion. Rivals had Bush the #1 RB I believe and scouts had Bush the #5 RB. That's just one instance but Rivals was on the money while Scouts not so much. Either way, if we're going by scouts then Ambles has a 37 inch vertical. You used rivals for that though while using scout for everything else. I hope it wasn't on purpose to try and prove me wrong. I was right in saying Ambles has a better vertical. He has about half a foot on Cobbs according to scout. By using scout/rivals, you made it appear Cobbs has a better vertical... just throwing that out there.

Actually a lot of times scout does overall better at predicting. They rate your lower level and juco guys better in my opinion most of the time.

That's cool. I just prefer rivals because they seem to do better with the big time players.

Some other notables... Rivals had Percy Harvin the number one overall player in the country. Scout had Percy Harvin as the second best wide receiver behind Vidal Hazelton. Rivals had Stafford as the number one quarterback while scout had Mitch Mustain. I guess it's those reasons I like rivals better. They seem to do a better job of pick the best player at their position.

Rivals says Ambles has a better vertical than Cobbs. Scout says Ambles has a better vertical than Cobbs. I guess you only prefer rivals when it benefits you in an argument. Rather than admit your wrong, you just say lol. Cool. You're awesome at debating.
