'10 PA DT Sharrif Floyd

Who cares, our O will be good. everybody needs to chill, we did just fine this year against their supposed invincible D.

I meant that we played very well on offense against them when the odds were against us. Now that they are getting better playmakers everywhere on O, it is going to get even more interesting.

talent gap is evening out. the Sullins bros won't be blocking your 5stars forever...

Didn't we finish ahead of UF last year?

Is there not a small difference amongst the top 5 recruiting classes?

Are we not fulfilling our biggest needs for O and D?

Do you feel the talent gap disappearing?

Do we not have the better coaches to get our boys ready to play?

I say yes to all of the above.

not in the enrolled rankings despite the significant numbers advantage.
Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Enrolled Rankings: Making an impact on campus

the other rankings get all the publicity but don't mean squat because they count players who never join your team. that's why I think Alabama claiming #1 class in 2008 is still pretty funny.

the Vols made up ground on the numbers gap with the 2009 class but while the Vols landed a high end players players if you look at the average prospect rating of last year's classes they didn't do much to gain ground on the overall talent gap. the rankings don't take account for it but losing Richardson and Edwards didn't help either of the gaps.

there's still plenty time in 2010 class to make up some ground on the talent gap especially if you guys land Chaz Green and Cullen but it only got broader with Powell, Floyd and Elam today.

You guys have been killing it lately, and I don't think we will catch you guys in the end. Powell, Floyd, Elam and all of the guys you got during the UA game was a HUGE payday for you guys.

oh there's no way the Vols are going to catch up with our class this year and even if it did the talent gap wouldn't be closed yet. closing a talent gap is a marathon, not a sprint. it's going to take time and i'm not certain with Tennessee's geographical disadvantage whether it will ever be truly closed in the foreseeable future.

doesn't mean Tennessee won't beat the Gators in the foreseeable future because talent isn't everything in football games. there's coaching, experience, emotion, leadership, work ethic, discipline, injuries and all sorts of things that make it possible for almost any team to beat another.

Very true.

You have one bad year and it sets you back two. We had two bad years and we are paying for it.

Fortunately, talent is not the only factor for a winning team though its a crucial one.

Bama turned it around quickly. We'd love to have that type of success. What Saban has done to that program is nothing short of amazing.

Tennessee likely won't be able to bounce back as quickly as Alabama. Much like Meyer found when he arrived at Florida, Mike Shula did not leave the cupboards bare like Fulmer largely did.

Let me be clear that I'm not taking anything away from Saban because he can recruit with the best of them and saying he "won with Shula's players" would be as silly now as it was when we were hearing Meyer "won with Zook's recruits". That being said pretty much every contributor on the 2008 team except Julio Jones and Terrance Cody were brought in by Mike Shula. And the majority of this year's national championship team was too, especially on defense. You can bounce back a lot quicker when there's a stockpile of talent already there.

Not only did Fulmer leave the cupboard dry, but Lane removed a ton of scholarship players. There is VERY little left on the shelf.

True, but it was necessary because they were the type of players that did not want to have to work in order to earn their spot.

I'm saying WTF, and saying why do you want to go there? Your coach may not be coming back and Charlie Strong is up in Louisville now. Either Urbie is really feeding them a spoonful of promises and lies or convinced a DC better than Charlie Strong is on their way.

Let them believe what they want to believe and let's just stick it to them next year and then the next with better coaching.

Florida already hired a new DC. George Edwards.
