'10 SC OL Marquis Pair

When he arrived at the University of Tennessee's one-day camp for lineman earlier this month, Marques Pair was a relative unknown in the ultra-competitive world of football recruiting.

The raw, athletic Pair was impressive in Knoxville in early June.
A good performance in front of myriad media outlets, not to mention the Volunteers' coaching staff, changed things for the athletic but raw 6-foot-6-inch, 255-pounder from Sumter, S.C. On Monday, just as Pair's recruitment was reaching a bit of a frenzied state with increased interest from UT, South Carolina, North Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State and Auburn, Pair ended the suspense when he pledged to UT.

I think that Fulton and Pair are just the tip of the iceberg for the coming weeks. My theory is that Kiffin is letting "silents" voice their commits right now, in hopes of persuading/strengthening our chances at Palardy, Scroggins, and whoever else is close to making a decision.

Am I crazy? Anyone else thinking this?

GO VOLS!!!

He probably saw Fulton commit and thought he better jump on board while there were still OL spots available. Smart move on his part. The other OL waiting out there might wanna jump on board as well, while there is room.

I think it said he runs a 4.6--that will slow down as he puts on a little weight but still wowsers. I think we may have two backs with 1000 yards in a season by the time Lane gets this offense together. Come on Lache and Trovon make G-d's country your home!!!

.

He runs a 4.6 shuttle and a 5 secs forty.

Sounds like the next Jason Smith. I would love to see him bulk up and be that kind of tackle.

I am not going to lie, I didn't really know too much about this guy or think he'd do anything....but dang, he looks athletic as "heck". I am loving that another OL spot is being filled with a quality (from the looks of it) player that the staff wants. I don't care about stars...staff, get the guys you want!

Kiffin mentioned already that we were going to collect guys on the offensive line that were not necessarily the household names. He wanted quick, athletic linemen to fit our scheme. He is getting and doing what he said once again.

Quote:
Securing offensive linemen is "very high" on UT's list of recruiting priorities, Kiffin said. However, don't expect UT to be chock full of four- and five-star blockers come National Signing Day 2010.

"They may not be the highest ranked players but they'll be players that fit our system - what we want," Kiffin said. "We want athletic guys. We want tough guys.

"I think what you may see is we may end up signing some guys that aren't household names in recruiting but will be great players in our system."

"I talked to two of the offensive linemen who were at the camp and they said the offensive line coaches (Jim Chaney and Mitch Browning), the head coach and offensive coordinator (Chaney) know what they're doing," Pair said, "and if you come here, you'll be getting the best coaching in world. That stuck in my head and we went from there."

You hear that Sroggins. Come on son, pull the trigger and be a Vol.

My Bad. Overly excited and had not heard of this guy much until now. Either way we just became a non desperate team for O-line. We are one big OT tackle commit like Stone from feeling pretty good.

Kid had a strong showing today. One of the offensive MVPs of the camp. Stone, Fulton were the other two to get the award for the camp. If we have not offered this kid it sounds like we will soon.

Awesome news!!!

What a great day!!! We're now getting players we need badly!

With Fulton and Pair onboard, do we get Stone next and basically sweep the camp MVP's?

Needs to add weight. If the coaches like him I'll trust what they have to say. He has a full year to gain 35 lbs. Good catch.

Kids are only 16-18 years old. They have plenty of time to get taller, bigger, and stronger
