I saw the kid dunk in 7th grade I believe. He's sick. I don't think he'll grow much taller if at all (he seemed to be that size in 8th grade ) - but we'll see. Definitely should get more ripped.
He's by far one of the most ripped guys for his age though. He definitely will be able to contribute immediately - his frame is already ready and he's still a junior - plus he's enrolling early.
I don't know if he will have a better year this year. Ooltewah had a sick D-line this past year and he had a lot of help from Que Jackson at DT, who was also a stud - just too short. I'm sure he'll put up similar numbers due to the fact he'll be improved and even stronger - and if they find a DT to keep him from being double teamed 24/7 he could have an even better year.
Any chance Kiffin will move this guy to mike since linebackers are now our glaring weakness in D?
Still have to disagree. We did a fine job recruiting at linebacker this past class, and our obvious positions of need are DE, DT, OL, QB, and WR. All of those positions will be high priority for this years class. LB is a need, but not as high on the list as these other positions.
I completely agree. IMO we will be loaded at LB for the next couple of years since we will only be losing McCoy after this season. King, Lathers, Thompson, Askew, and Reveiz will all be solid. Heck, I'm still expecting big things out of Chris Donald, though I may be one of the few. We will still prolly sign at least 3 LBs in the 2010 class...
Maybe not glaring, but it is one of the weakest positions we have on Defense and will be recruited as such.
I'll back you up. It's glaring.
We don't have any proven linebackers other than Rico.
this yr's class----
Greg King may not qualify.
Jerod Askew is the safest pick to play early and often.
Nigel-Mitchel Thornton (Fr.): good spring. 0 career starts
Robert Nelson (Fr.) 0 career starts.
Marlon Walls -- going to be a DT at UT.
guys on the roster---
Chris Donald (Rs So.) 5* out of high school that is yet to break out
Savion Frazier (Jr.) having a decent spring
LaMarcus Thompson (Jr.) special teams specialist up to this point
Nick Reveiz (Jr.) (1 career start?)
Shane Reveiz (So.) ?
Gerald Williams (Jr.) playing DL and not getting much ink through this spring
Herman Lathers (Rs Fr. or So.?) having a decent spring. has hit the weights hard.
Rico McCoy is the only surefire starter and he's going to graduate after the season. Ignoring him, who on this list can you pencil in without hesitation for all-conference honors? No one.
With Monte's résumé and this staff's expectations you better believe we're going to be pursuing All-American linebacker candidates. We need guys with speed that can cover and hit---high football IQ's and intensity. I'll be surprised if Tennessee doesn't sign at least 3 solid linebacker commits in this cycle.
Like I said, it may be a need, but you can in no way, shape, or form honestly tell me that we need LBs more than we need OL, DL, DE, QB, or WR. That is why I say that it is not a GLARING need, especially compared to our other needs, therefore it is not high priority.
But I do agree, as I said before, that 3 (maybe even 4) LBs will be what to expect for this year's class because it will be a large class.
nice breakdown jack
