'10 TN DE Jacques Smith

I think it was an Ohio State wrestler a few years ago that was running in practice. He dropped to the floor and that was it

Oh, I dont doubt it can happen. I just have never seen it or know a specific case. In 98 while in college and just learning BJJ, a highschooler was running and jumping rope with a trashbag and passed out. Someone told me later that he hadnt had anything to drink in 48 hours and also had taken a water pill. I wouldnt doubt if he had taken a laxative as well. Sorry to get off topic.

I think he has the frame to move inside and be a force. I don't know if he will stay at end.

No way. He has got like 0% fat on him (exaggeration of course) - he's all muscle and he's got the perfect DE frame. No reason to ever try to move him to DT when some even considered him a LB - unless we really, really, really need more DTs. He's really strong - but he has the speed - the strength will just help him contribute early unlike Ben Martin who was a stick.

I believe he will stay at DE as well. Monte does like fast DL that can get penetration back to the QB. I think if he does put on significant weight, you could see him playing a role at DL.
He would definately start out at DE though.

I hope he works hard this weekend trying to reel in recruits

Walls was recruited as a LB, but outsized the position in a years time and grew into a DT (no fat either are the rumors). Growth happens, no way to determine with any kind of certainty where this young man will end up.

After the O&W game, my cousin (teammate and good friend of jacques') wanted to call him up to talk and hangout for a while. Long story short Jacques, being the ultimate class act that he is, invited us into the Vols locker room.

It would be an absolute understatement to say I freaked out. I looked like a kid on Christmas. As we turned the corner to head into the double doors that led into the locker room, a loud deep voice echoed through the hall. "Oh that's just Coach O," Smith told my cousin and me with a huge grin, "He's Awesome." Sure enough there was Coach O and Coach Gran greeting everyone who walked in. And yes, O is just how they described.

I didnt get to talk to many of the players or recruits, cause technically I wasnt suppose to be there, but me and my cousin did ask Chris Walker about Smith. "He's a beast." And that all he needed to say. (On a side note jacques was talking to a TE prospect. I didnt get a name but, kid must have been 6'5" 230...and he just turned 16.)

If I had a list of things I thought I would never get to do, being in the Tennessee locker room would be one of them. Jacques didnt have to let us go with him, but you wont find a better person except for maybe BJ Coleman, who talked to me like we were best friends.

So thanks Jacques for making my year so far. Can't wait to see him in orange.

You got to love the kids that are tries and true Vols. This kid bleeds orange and will probably help pull in others to the Orange side.

Envious says it all.

That was probably Eric MacLain. He is our '11 commitment and the equivalent of Jacques from a recruiting standpoint. Wears our colors all the time and is an ambassador.

Gonna be a great recruiter for us at camp I think. He is a well-spoken, hardcore UT, monster.

This kid is the real deal. Smart, tremendous athlete, everything you could want in a representative for UT. Proud he is going to be a Vol!
