'10 TN OL James Stone

A guy on Scout says he has info close to the situation and he says Notre Dame leads at the moment. I dunno who to believe...

I think he is wide open. He is not a Vol fan from what he says. Academics matter to him. On a brighter note. I forgot to say when I spoke with N. Gwinnett coaches they said Jawuan had us as his two and is really excited by our Depth chart. Maybe if Stone picks Bama we get him in a trade. Which is better?

No one is a lock.

The sad thing is a verbal commitment doesn't mean squat. Until a school gets that LOI, nothing is set in stone.

We will keep JuWuan you take Stone if we had to choose. Just my opinion though. I also think we might be backing off unless he is commiting soon. We already have 3 OL for 2010 and apparantly only taking one more. If D Robinson commits to us before the season that probably will close out recruiting the OL for us. Plus with this kid from MD now naming us as one of his 2 official visits, Arie Kouandjio, I really don't think we get Stone. Would love to have him but very doubtful. I also hear though ND and Vandy are up there with him for academic reasons.

I would say the info I have is from a source a lot closer than that guy. Trust me...others know the person I am talking about.

Just to let you guys know, as of a few days ago(not sure how many), but Alabama leads for his services.

That's info from someone close to the situation.

Not to attack you, but that info you got was wrong. Trust me on that. I guarantee you he will not go to Bama.

Not a stretch to think that Bama or ND are in it...they been plucking the best from TN for years. CLK saying at media days that TN doesn't have talent doesn't help. That's Fulmer strategy.

It's from the guy that takes him on all of the visits.

I wasn't there when it was said(I think I left right before the guy was there), but someone who was there told me.(also a long time member of VN who wouldn't lie to me)

So, I'm gonna believe him over anyone right now until that changes.

No way he could go to Bama then unless free books is what matters.

I feel like Stone, regardless of whether or not he commits, is a big recruit for this class. If we end up signing him: (1) Kiffin backs up the "fence around TN" rhetoric, (2) Kiffin and co. continue to fill the need at OL by adding a versatile, skilled, highly rated player and (3), a positive statement is made to other offensive recruits that consequently has a luring effect.

If we don't: (1) losing Marlon Brown, (most likely) Barry Brunetti, and Stone would undermine Kiffin's assertion about the Recruiting Fence. We become less convinced that the staff can hold on to talented kids from TN. (2) We inexplicably lose out on another big-time player, to a rival, with whom it seemed we had a very good chance of landing. (3) we have to move down our target list.

I don't believe in "must gets", but I think Stone should be a big priority for Kiffin.

Agreed, good post. Offensive line is also our highest priority, even over QB.

This whole building a fence around Tennessee thing has gotten way out of hand and many of you have taken this literally. Now do I expect this staff to get EVERY single BCS prospect in the state NO! Not everyone in Tennessee grows up a Vol fan and there are alot of colleges out there who offer some things UT doesn't.

I have been in the recruiting/head huntng business for a long time and trust me, all it takes is one small thing to make a person sour on you or what your selling and they start to look elsewhere. So if you guys will look back at when you were 17, I'm sure you can remember how often your mind changed and how stupid things pissed you off.

This staff is a Top 3 recruiting staff and I think they will get the majority of people they want but trust me, a kid like James Stone or Jesse Scroggins won't make me lose a bit of sleep if they don't sign them.

James Stone: 6-5/280 – Nashville (TN) Maplewood Comp
Recruiting: He has a long list of favorites, but you have to like Tennessee’s chances at this stage.
Quick Hitter: Stone is another offensive lineman with good versatility, good feet, and a high ceiling

Chad Simmons

E. J. Junior went to Maplewood HS and then signed with Alabama and on to the NFL. I know that was many moons ago but they could be using that connection.

I read an article not long ago that said we lost a recruit to NC State because the dorms served better ice cream there. It is amazing what a 17-18 year old will make a life changing decision on.

:eek:lol:

I wish I could make that up, but it is so off the wall, even I could not fabricate such a story.
