'10 TN OL James Stone

I agree I am not that impressed with Stone or from the reports I have been receiving. Let's move on to bigger fish

I mean ...that is a pretty big fish at a position of need....have you seen his offer list?

Thing is that James plays in a run oriented offense at Maplewood so he needs work in the pass blocking aspects of the game....his leverage is off....his punch step needs some work and overall he needs to get stronger....once he gets to the college level...he will adjust...he is very smart so soaking up teaching will not be a problem...

Do you think he is best suited to be a tackle or guard in college?

I think he has talent although he was underwhelming from what I saw of him at camp. He's someone who is going to need a few years to adjust to the college game. Zach Fulton was on a completely different level than every other offensive line prospect at camp including Stone. It wasn't even close.

guard.....

I've been telling you stone is not a bad player, but he is not what we want for this team. Let Chuckie up at ND take him if they want him. There are more lineman in this class in the same state more talented than him.

"When James camped at Tennessee, he didn't have his best day. He didn't get much sleep the night before. He went up against a few speed guys like Corey Miller and got beat a few times and I think that hurt his reputation a little. He wants to show people what he does best with the pads on and that is be a completely dominating football player."

"Other than Alabama, it is still the same main schools. Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Auburn and Tennessee. Tennessee has picked it up recently. Auburn has made James a priority because of their need for linemen. James likes the academics at Vandy. All of those schools have their strong points."

Thanks Vader.

You always contribute alot IMO when you on topic give me some Rivals news I would never otherwise get.

Stone may well end up staying in Nashville. Does anyone know what he wants to major in? Engineering and Architecture are both great at UT. If UT wants to get a smart recruit who wants to know he can use his degree outside football to succeed, they should point all day long to Darwin Walker.

If James really does want to be an architecture major ND has a great program. However, it does require a 1 year of study abroad in Rome. Usually football players coming in saying they want to be an architecture major don't end up staying with the major, quit the team, or transfer (TE Joey Hiben to Minnesota for example).

Bama people have been saying they have cooled on Stone a little. Not sure why maybe #'s. They seem to like Kouandjio and Robinson a little better.

I think we really need to sign Stone. The kid is going to be a pretty good player and we need to get top rated kids from the middle of the state to come here. I know we will always lose some kids from Memphis but Nashville should be ours.

Stone is a big priority because we need offensive guards and he projects as an offensive guard. If Tennessee can add him and Fulton in this class then I would say this staff gets an A+ rating when it comes to filling the critical need at OG.

Kouandjio would seem to be at the top of the list, followed by Robinson for the last OL spot. It will be intersting to see how it shakes out.

I saw the 4th quarter of Maplewood's game against MBA last night. Maplewood gave up a 28-17 with 4 minutes to go in the game. Just looked like the whole team (Stone included) just ran out of gas. Stone is an impressive figure on a high school field but from what I saw he did not make a lot of plays.

I still think this guy is big-time. IMO, he'll pick either UT or Bama, and I think our staff is high on him... not too sure how bad UT wants him. Either way, UT should have a monster OL class, and that is exactly how Bama started it's way back to relevance. It isn't a flashy position, but it may be the most important!

Ill take Robinson and just let the other to decide on their school of choice later.

Dead on with that post.

We need 4 or 5 good OL prospects at this point. I would say he would be 1 of them, if he comes here.

What are the chances we get this could? IMO I think he could start from day 1 next year.

The only reason he's starting next year is if everyone else is really that bad.

OL is probably the hardest position for a guy to come in and contribute right away, and all but the best of the best prospects are mediocre at best if they do start right away.

There is definitely a big jump in talent at the next level and most of these kids will have to work their way back to the top of the depth chart no matter where they go.
