'10 VA DT Evan Hailes

I dont want him. If he is going to be scared about depth chart then see ya. O will find someone else and make them a Dline god. Why waste energy to make a cry baby commit. He would probably pull a stokes and bail on signing day.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that when a QB cites lack of depth and early playing time as a reason he is interested in us, he is "smart" and "making a wise choice, "but when a DT says the same thing as a reason he is looking elsewhere, he isn't good enough for us anyway?

Pot, meet Kettle.

bad comparison...

1 QB plays every down of every game in a season, multiple DTs play in every game.

The difference is is that DT's have a better chance of playing when there are 3-4 other Dt's in front compared to 3-4 QB's in front of a QB prospect.

I am saying that if he is scared off by a few JUCO signings then see ya. be realistic man.

Realistically Coach O will eventually have the rotation of 5-6 players. Most schools do that. A DT going full speed every play is not going to play more that 25-40 plays a game. It just doesnt happen unless you have to. If he is scared to compete DT is not the position to be scared of competition.

unless you are SOS you dont rotate QB's. You cant compare the 2 positions.

• Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith defensive tackle Evan Hailes had a great visit to Virginia Tech a weekend ago and the Hokies have made what appears to be his final cut. The other two on the list are Tennessee and Penn State. Hailes will be in Knoxville at the end of this week for an unofficial visit and at Penn State next Friday. Hailes has told each school he expects to take all three visits before deciding. If he can’t come to a decision after the visits, NC State and LSU could get a look, but right now, it appears as if the Hokies have set the bar highest, though Tennessee has been recruiting the hardest and Penn State offers the path of least resistance to early playing time.

per Mike Farrel

I wonder if he didn't compete because he was scared they would stop recruiting him? Maybe he isn't confident that since there are only a few spots he would be able to impress the staff? Any reasons for sure why?

Any reasons for sure why?

I don't know who said it or what board, but someone said that his coach didn't want him working out for fear of being injured.

That sounds odd to me, but he may have an old injury which they don't want to re-aggravate.

Judging by his comments in a recent article, I'm beginning to doubt that he will end up here. He said something to the effect of "I used to be real high on Tennessee, but that was before I got the Penn State offer." or something like that. I'd love to see Hailes in orange plugging up the 2-gap but we'll see...

That article was before his visit this weekend. So things could have changed. Who knows though.

Make sure and say the quote the right way because when you guess and change it like you have it takes on a life of its own.

Here is the real quote exactly and the only thing from it is he got the offer and it evened the playing field a little bit, nothing more.

"I don't have a favorite, I'm just keeping it even right now," he said. "I don't know where (people) get that from, because I've never told anyone that I have a favorite. I always tell everyone that people are even with me. There was one time when I liked Tennessee a lot, but then Penn State came into the picture, and that kind of dropped everybody else a little bit. I'd never heard anything from Penn State before, but when I came down to it, I felt, 'man, this is a school where I could do something at.'"
