'10 WA QB Jake Heaps

I've talked to a few guys on the west coast and they seem to think he's overrated. Very Very accurate, but not a strong arm at all. Good leader, but his stats are inflated because he's been throwing to WRs who are 4 and 5 star recruits. One guy went on to say that he's not even has good as Erik Ainge coming out of high school. Take it for what it's worth

Everyone is so sure he is gonna do a mission. I haven't heard HIM say anything about it. So is this just an asumption by most people, or is there evidence that he will in fact do a mission in the next couple of years?

Much rather have Simms or maybe even Nash Nance. Actually there are a ton of grade A qb's coming out this year.

Scout has him ranked as the top overall player in the 2010 class.

I don't know about his targets, but watching a bit of video I have to say there is no lack of arm strength. I don't know if he has the zip on the deep outs, but posts, flags, and fades had plenty of depth to them. He looked like he could make college throws even before getting college strength and conditioning.

The one thing I didn't like is he stared down his targets, that won't work in the SEC.

From what I heard about Nance, he hasn't taken very many under the center snaps. He looks like a spread QB from his videos, so I doubt we go after him hard if not at all.

His stats aren't exactly inflated, most of the time he's working with a short field because the defense gives him great field position, and most games he was taken out at half or given 1 drive in the third quarter. From the 2008 season, 2 of his recievers won't play football in college, and 1 is going to WSU, and the 4th was just a tiny little sophomore (Kasen Williams :) )

I've watched him the last few years, and I can understand the comments about camps though. He's in no way physically gifted, but he's an incredible QB/leader, and if a team has a good OL and WR, I don't think anyone would do better than Jake.

new article on Rivals, doesn't really say much
cPanel®

"At Tennessee, Coach Lane Kiffin is a very promising coach," Heaps said. "There is a lot to look forward to in Tennessee's future. Coach Kiffin has put together an absolutely amazing staff.

"To be able to play for one of the SEC's premier teams in front of 108, 000 fans would definitely be one for the memory books. Tennessee is a program on the rise and they will be very good in the future."

There's an article on the front page of Rivals to the right that says "Heaps has sight on targets"...but I'm not a member and can't read it

edit: nevermind, I glanced at the post above me but wasn't paying attention until after I posted

"My goal is to commit as soon as possible because I want to be able to make an impact and my college choice recruit the best possible class," Heaps said. "I'm pretty locked into this scenario, but you never know what will happened, but committing early is definitely the plan."

I doubt he commits after his visit. He had a lot of nice things to say about the other 10 programs (had trimmed list to 10, but FSU offered, so now he has 11 he is considering).

It is good though that we are one of his first visits, if not his first. I think he will strongly consider us, and that we will make his next cut for sure.

It seems the previous Heaps thread(s) was/were nuked. I posted an article link that I wanted to review, and now I have no clue if it's buried in a merged or deleted thread.

I still think Lane is the best personality matchup for Jake out of the final 11.

Based on things I've read, I'd go UW/UT/BYU as his final three.

it got merged, the old topic is right here: http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-recruiting/51170-2010-prospects-44.html

I think that was like page 5, so 5-6 before and 5-6 after are the old Heaps topic

thanks for that link, Skyline.

I really like the sound of this---

Rivals excerpt 2/9

"I've come across a lot of kids throughout the recruiting process, and I've had some of them tell me that wherever I go, they'll go."

of course saying that and doing that are two different things, but it's certainly a positive thing to hear.

I think we should take a look at the #3 receiver from that team as well.....He looked pretty good!

I saw his film.....this guy is legit. To be honest I want this guy in orange and white more that any other player in the 2010 class...he is for real. Kiff will pull out the red carpet for him. There's a reason he's coming in this soon. His accuracy with the ball is amazing!

If we land him this early I guarantee we will land some big time WR's....all kiff will have to do is show them his highlights and they will be a lock IMO....I mean hell... after watching that video I want to run some routes for this guy...

I just watched videos of him as well. I am obviously not a scout, but I was very impressed. If this guy is not planning the 2 year absence for mission trips, then I say this is the guy.
