10 year show cause/NCAA, Tyndall discussion (merged)

That is total baloney. DT took that defense and won SEC road games at LSU, Vanderbilt, Missouri, South Carolina, and Mississippi State in spite of the home cooking that occurs universally on SEC home courts. RB managed only a win at Mississippi State. Two of those wins occurred in February not to mention a two point loss at Ole Miss in that month.

In Tyndall's year at TN... he started 12-5 plus 2 exhibition wins. Then he closed out the season 4-11. Those are the FACTS. The Donnie Ball "Terror" Defense was as flawed as his ability to tell the truth and BuzzDrill's ability to accept the facts.

I loved the defense, with a few years in, I think it would've really worked.

Too many open looks from the perimeter. It needed an NBA distance 3 point line to have any chance of being effective consistently versus P-5s and upper level mid-majors. Any team with two or more good outside shooters would pick it apart.

That's what I'm saying. A couple of years in the system, with some long, athletic defenders, and it would've worked. Some guys who can Cover the distance needed.

I'll check back later to see if you found the evidence to prove Tyndall guilty, other than Adam Howard's testimony which was opposite of what he had said on 2 prior occasions.

If you can't show what you said that you have read, then you must be AH's clone! Also, you would be the one with the closed mind!

THE ACCUSER IS THE LIAR! So you believe the liar; how sad.

Yeah, because people can't lie at first, and then tell the truth later. Your boy did that a few times during the investigation.

haha reading this I couldn't help but laugh at you. "what he inherited after arriving here" ..... Please elaborate on the fantastic roster and great public perception of Tennessee Basketball CRB inherited?

The 2016-17 basketball season will mark a first in Rick Barnes' coaching career by giving him his first 2 year losing record ever, in my opinion. Last season he had his 2nd worst overall record of his life coaching college ball, but this season will, again in my opinion, become his worst. If this should happen, then he also will miss his 2nd year of postseason play, which has never happened to him before.

If you check his Wikipedia stats, then you will find that he has had only 3 years where his team finished below .500 in league play, but 2 of those years have come in the past 3 seasons. If what I predict happens, after this upcoming season, he will have 3 losing league records in the last 4 years. No one can justify this pitiful performance based on what he inherited after arriving here since he has had 2 recruiting classes of his own and he did inherit rising sophomore Admiral Schofield.

Other than last year, he has missed postseason play 1 other time as a P5 coach, that is if one also considers that Texas had to pay in order for his 3rd to last season as The Longhorn head man's bb coach to participate in the CBI. In that CBI postseason affair, his team lost to Houston in the first game.

Speaking of postseason play, out of 22 NCAA appearances for his teams, 21 came due to an at-large invitation; and then only 6 times did his team advance past the first weekend.

His winning percentage is currently at 65, but I believe that it will never reach this threshold again in his career. In fact, if he should choose to remain in coaching until he reaches the age of 70 and finishes here at Tennessee, I can easily see his winning to drop below 60%.

If it were not for his first 13 seasons at Texas, he would have a sub-.500 record overall in P5 league play.

If the majority of Volunteer Fans want a program that continues to decline into the near future, then I believe we now have the coach to help make that happen.

If anyone does not believe the stats that I have posted here, then that person or persons can check them out for themselves, as I have already said, at Wikipedia and click on Rick Barnes.

My final 5 questions are: did Barnes have success at Texas because he was a knowledgeable bb coach or because topnotch talent just wanted to matriculate there because of the school's aura? Did that type of talent start to wane after the word got around that he was not a winner of a coach? All American, D. J. Augustin had unpleasant things to say about him, for example. Was Texas not justified in firing him? Why did Dave Hart hire him, when there were many other more desirable candidates out there?

Yeah, because people can't lie at first, and then tell the truth later. Your boy did that a few times during the investigation.

You made a good point when you showed the timeline on the firing and hiring of Donnie and Rick, now, give me all of the times that Donnie lied during the investigation.

I finally think that Calban has fallen off the side of a mountain. He is beginning to make no sense at all.

You make a good point here. Tennessee is never gonna get the kind of talent that Kentucky brings in just like Kentucky is never gonna get the kind of talent that we bring in for football.

It takes a defense that is active in the half court that drives the opponent absolutely crazy and that can turn the ball over enough times to gain an advantage so that the 5* guys find themselves working to the point of exhaustion.

Pearl was able to do this in his first 3 yrs. and Tyndall would have achieved the same results.

Rick's philosophy is to run, run, run. Whoever has the best shooting and rebounding night is the team that will usually win. Kind of like pro ball and only a few players can play like that. Schools like UT need to manage more of the game so that they can get more of the high percentage shots.

He lied about his mama's phone the first two times he was interviewed before telling the truth in the 3rd. If he lied the first 2 out of 3 times, why is it hard to believe the Howard lied the first 2 out of 3 times? Why does his HAVE to be a lie on the 3rd time?

Sorry for the long ass post, but you don't have to read it if you don't want to. I done one of these last year, and wanted to do another.

I decided to dissect Donnie and ricks offense and defense while they were here, I counted times of possession, and all. Here's ricks, I done these on a dry erase board, so it's only the first few minutes of each game, I will give thoughts, and Stuff after.

Offense :
6 seconds-miss
17 seconds-miss
23 seconds- drew foul
6 secs- offensive foul
29 seconds-miss
6 seconds- turnover
26-miss

Defense:
6 seconds make
12 seconds miss
24 seconds foul
26 seconds foul
10 seconds drew offensive foul
6 seconds make
16 seconds make.

Here's some thoughts I jotted down

Offense: Iso Armani Moore off the bat, turnover. No movement whatsoever

No movement, again. Just passing around, with no purpose.trail 0-4 at this point.

Poor ball handling, losing the ball, dribbling into pressure, etc.

Can't handle pressure effectively, doesn't turn it over, but doesn't do any good either.

Spacing is off, three Guys within 8 foot of each other.

Defense: gave up easy Lob, right after the tip.

Good defensive posture by Derek Reese, causing a bad shot.

Nice switch, and pick up of open man causing a bad shot.

Nice foul b schofield stopping an easy dunk.

Horrible transition defense, trying to set into 2-3, nobody knows where to go. Giving up an easy basket.

On the first 2-3 possessions we went man to man, that worked and threw the other team off, all of a sudden we go into zone, and they start getting whatever they want. Why do that?

All in all, the offense looks stagnant, no movement, and poor spacing. Having a real point guard who can be a floor general will help us a lot. Rick seems to only coach during timeouts, either no in game coaching, or players didn't listen. Hopefully turner, and bone can straighten that up. Defense was the strong point of what I saw, until we switched to zone. Still have no clue why.

Now, onto mister Tyndall.

Offense
17 seconds miss
4 seconds drew foul
3 seconds miss
24 seconds make
20 seconds and1
19 seconds out of bounds Vol ball
7 seconds miss

Score was 7-4 in favor of other team when I ran out of room.

Defense
15 secs make 3-0
18 seconds foul
5 seconds turn over
16 seconds make 5-0
11 seconds make 7-2
15 seconds foul
7 seconds o rebound,
6 seconds miss
12 foul
5 seconds miss
10 seconds miss 7-4

My thoughts on the offense:
Offense started stagnant, but became smooth on the second trip.

A lot of off the ball movement, and quick fluid passes.

A couple of bad shots, but all in all shots were good shots, that went in, or just missed.

A lot of pick and roll action, one beautiful dish go Jabari McGhee which sent him to the line for an "and-one"

All in all, the offense was good. Lots is ball movement, and keeping defenders on their feet. Moldy slow time wise, but very effective.

My thoughts on the defense:
There was a bad close to start the game that ended up being a made 3.

Made up for it next postion, but closing out and forcing a miss.
Even though there was a could going after that rebound on Carmichael, it was all effort.

Good defense that forced a wild shot, into a rebound and run out.

Had a rough job getting back, but competed.

All in all, the defense was successful in doing its job through out the night, while losing, it was respectfully, and the vols looked like a force to be reckoned with.

To end it, both teams had their flaws, but both played hard, and aggressive. If I had to pick, I'd take the Tyndall vols over the Barnes vols, just because I think Josh Richardson would've locked punter down. It would've been a close game though.

Tyndall admits that he utilized a phone in his mother’s name. However, the phone was turned off on November 8, 2015, ten days before he was interviewed by the Enforcement Staff. Under the Enforcement Staff’s and COI’s theory, Tyndall would have utilized the phone in his mother’s name exclusively to conceal all communication with involved parties during the investigation. However, Tyndall discontinued the phone before he was fully aware of the focus of the investigation. Moreover, Tyndall contacted involved parties on his personal phones when the phone in his mother’s name was still active. Other than Adam Howard, no other involved party suggested that Tyndall utilized the phone in his mother’s name to conceal and influence information. Accordingly, the COI findings are based on a faulty theory and unsupported by corroborated information. (Although, it is not the role of the Infractions Appeals Committee to evaluate the credibility of Adam Howard, his lack of credibility and the COI’s reliance on an habitual liar and admitted multiple violator of NCAA legislation is central to this case.)
Results from a lie detector test taken by Tyndall confirm that the phone in his mother name was not intended to hide impermissible activity, nor that he failed to disclose the phone for the purpose of hiding information from the Enforcement Staff.

He was asked about it two times before he admitted to it, used it during the investigation (the NCAA has the phone records) and then admitted to having it.

However, the point of it was the fact Tyndall lied twice before telling the truth. Why is it possible he lied twice then was honest, but not possible that was the case with Howard? According to you, only Tyndall lies twice, everyone else tells the truth before lying.

Playing ugly slow Donnie turtle ball was not going to win here. Please stop.

Hey, turdle, why don't you move to Cleveland, OH so you can become a Cavs fan and be oh so excited, or start backing the wild kitties who have all of the future pros that hate defense and only like shooting the ball.

I hope that you were not a UT fan back in the Mears era where we played strategy and gave the cats and the commodores all kinds of fits. You would have been super bored, but I loved it because we won a lot of games. I like winning!

There are not enough pro players to go around at the college level, so if the rules are changed to fit that level of play, then there is gonna be a wide gap between the haves and havenots. Guess which ones we will be.

Who cares what phone you use as long as you can communicate. Does the committee have documents to show what was being said? Tyndall has a right to investigate what he is being charged with since he didn't even know that an investigation was gonna be taking place. It's difficult to have knowledge when everything that was being done was being done in secret by your assistants, no matter what Adam Howard said after receiving immunity!

Thanks for posting this. I know that it must have taken you awhile to get it all straightened out, but once you did, it just proved on this occasion when comparing 2 different teams against another 2 different teams that coaching does make a difference. The more a team is coached...the better they become; at least on the college level.

If Barnes was coaching any team with slightly better talent than Tyndall had, then it would be a no-brainer. Tyndall would win every time!

The nerds on this board make fun of you all the time but this post shows that you are way more intelligent than any of them. And, you are much younger; therefore as you get older and smarter...they are gonna seem more like imbeciles.

When Bruce Pearl was here, he kicked Rick Barnes butt twice; and Barnes had higher rated players than Bruce, by far! Bruce is gonna kick his butt many more times before one retires. I pray that they both have good health and coach many more years. Bruce will be smiling a lot.

After thinking about what you have done here, CONGRATULATIONS for stepping out there on your own and debunking some of the "Rick idolizers" view on what coaching style works best. It takes a real man to take such a bold move; wimps can't do this sort of thing. However, be prepared for the onslaught of hate coming your way since wimps feel stronger by ganging up on something new and innovative.

A come from behind single digit OT victory is not "kicking butt". Pearl kicked his ass once, won a tight one, and got his ass beat.

If we come from behind to beat bama by less than 3 pts. in overtime, most people on this board will be talking about us kicking Saban's butt. However, leave it up to you to throw cold water on them by saying, "but that was only 1 time".

I went on to say that Pearl is gonna be kicking Barnes butt many, and I do mean MANY, more times before they are through. And I hope and pray that that will be a long time in the future.

You also ignored the 19 point whipping Barnes put on Pearl.

I would never say that about a win that close against Bama. I'll be excited it happened, but I'm not ignorant enough to use statements like "kicked his butt" when it's a single score game.

And you just admitted that you're not a Vol fan by saying you "hope and pray that [Pearl kicks Barnes' butt for] a long time in the future." You don't give a damn about the team. You only want Barnes to fail so you can gloat and be a pompous windbag.

And it's caught on screenshot so you can't edit it and claim you said anything different.

Frankly, I wish that we had Pearl, or someone as competent, than Barnes. I am a UT fan, but I don't think that incompetence should be rewarded. I will amend what I said about "many years" if our new AD will make hiring a competent coach a priority on his/her schedule.
