'11 ATH Jabriel Washington

“Alabama and LSU are on top right now and they are really coming after me hard,” he said. “Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia are after those two. Alabama and LSU just really stand out to me a lot right now.”

Washington has an upcoming visit to Tennessee scheduled where he will get to meet with the new staff for the first time. Alabama will get him on campus this weekend for A-Day as well, but he took a trip to Tuscaloosa not too long ago.

Per Scout...

This guy is going to the SEC West. Not a big loss here, as I once thought. I don't see him as an every down kind of guy anymore.

I've heard that TN has pretty much stopped recruiting him. I really don't understand why because it seems like if he's good enough for Bama, LSU, USC, Ohio State, etc then surely since he's an instate kid we would make room for him. JMO

Because our present staff sadly will not recruit with the vigor necessary to be a top program. Friends in Jackson have told me he is a great player.

Hence why we only have about 40 visitors for the Orange and White game...bunch of slackers we hired

And Dooley and his staff are doing an AWESOME job recruiting so far.

that's the impression I got too. I guess since they aren't running around telling everyone how great they're doing it doesn't translate as well to the average follower.

Lord Vader- Why do you say that? I think if just for perception you don't want your instate kids going to Alabama. I don't care if people think he's overrated or not. What i'm i missing on this?

Maybe CDD is just wanting to spend quality time on those recruits that have high interest in UT than waste time on recruits that require more work to turn them.

In regards to all these negative so-called UT fans stars and rating mean squat in the end. It is whether the coach feels the player can fit the program. CDD is a good recruiter and he recruits just like Saban. We just took a TE commiment yesterday that nobody was recruiting other than Stanford and Vandy, with some smaller schools.

M Ingram was a 3 star and the 58th overall RB in his classwhen we got his commitment and M Dareus another NR when he commited started 3 games last year and looks to be NFL 1st round draft pick after the next season. So give CDD time he will get the players.

I think it's the difference in styles between the two staffs. Kiffins staff was brash ans in your face types while Dooley's is more quite and reserved. Just because were not hearing much doesn't mean there isn't something happening in recruiting. I think as time goes on and others get used to Dooley's style we will start to get more info in the future.

Somebody alert the staff, this guy's friends in Jackson are on the job so they can just take the summer off.

Exactly. I guarantee you that Dooley's next 4 or 5 commits will be better than the ones that kiffin reeled off this time last year (Pat harris, Risean broussard, Jose Jose).

I mean, just look at that visitor list for this weekend. It's better than last year's.

We can find a "Jabriel Washington" type CB/WR who wants to wear Orange. I just don't like the fact that the last staff was on him very hard and Dooley started on him hard and he still had us at #3 being from TN.

At some point, you gotta count your losses and move on imo.

What you said is key. Why waste your time trying to get Jabriel when you can get a kid on the same level without all the drama and extra work.

And I still can't figure out why so many people don't like Dooley's recruiting. He is recruiting BETTER than Kiffin was at this time last year. I never heard of UT leading for this many guys this early.

IMO i don't think we should ever concede an instate recruit to our biggest rival regardless of where he ranks us on his list. That doesn't send a good message. JMO

You would rather us recruit players that we can get at positions of greater need and actually win than worry about sending messages. JMO

Pretty much LV, summed it up. At some point you got to count your losses.

The kid has us 3rd on his list. It ain't like he has no interest in TN at all. There is at least interest because he said he plans on visiting.

The proof is in the pudding, LV. What Dooley did with the '10 class was amazing, but it's way too early to tell how '11 will shape up. I seem to remember just as many guys saying Tennessee leads last year and, honestly, more players that had us on their list of schools. Much of that is due to the streamlined process Dooley and Joseph have employed but there is still a question of can the two adapt readily to recruiting in the SEC vs. at LaTech.

There is no way to judge that at this point. It will be February before anything discernible can be learned. So to say Dooley is recruiting well or poorly at this point is simply misguided.

this is one of the most pathetic things I've ever read on here. That's such a loser attitude

The effort is better spent on some of the GA players who live closer to K'ville and have greater interest. The athleticism will be comparable but the quality of football they've played in HS will be on a completely different level.

I am trying to remember highly rated players that came out of the Memphis area in TN who lived up to their billing... and can't. There are several kids just south in MS that have done well but for some reason not on the TN side.

If this or any UT staff can break into Memphis then great... if not, I won't stress over it. GA and SC are closer and far more important.

Loser attitude, ok than think what you want, but in the end the players that want to be there are the ones you can count on. Not the egos because if you recruits players that are coming to be stars and not love the tradition of the program than all you end with are players like last year that bailed when things went south.

Go ahead cry because not every 5 star is in love with your program because fans that only look for those things are just shallow and fans that are so quick to criticize a coach before he has time to succeed or fail are a joke to a program.

The funny part is that UT might end up with more kids from AL than UA with kids from TN this year.

The irony here is that a UA fan has more hope and faith that UT will bounce back more than some so called UT fans.
