'11 ATH Jabriel Washington

There are much better players out there than Jabriel. He plays weak competition in West Tennessee. That alone makes him look superb. Remember how Chris Donald turned out. He looked and played like a man-child in a weak Class 1A. Most of Jabriels competition is Division II Class A. Dont sweat him if he doesn't want to play for UT.

this is one of the most pathetic things I've ever read on here. That's such a loser attitude

actually it's a pretty smart (and common) thing to do. Some kids you just can't convince to come to your school and that's ok. Spend time on the ones that are actually interested

I'm sure most of the schools recruiting him are aware of the competition he plays against. You can make arguements all day long to fit your opinion on the comp thing because there is plently of examples on both sides of the issue. My thing is that we shouldn't concede an in-state recruit that has interest in us to one of our biggest rivals. You never know at the end of the day what a kid will do.

I'm sure they stay in contact, but you can hardly consider Memphis to be in state. They're more likely to be Bama or Ole Miss fans than UT fans out there. West TN will always be a hard sell for UT because of distance.

He doesn't live in Memphis. He lives in Jackson and TN has been very successful over the years with players from Jackson, TN. Al Wilson, Jabari Greer , Trey Teague, and list goes on. It's totally different than being from Memphis.

And they've also been very successful with guys from SC, GA and AL. It's really not worth worrying about that much.

The proof is in the pudding, LV. What Dooley did with the '10 class was amazing, but it's way too early to tell how '11 will shape up. I seem to remember just as many guys saying Tennessee leads last year and, honestly, more players that had us on their list of schools. Much of that is due to the streamlined process Dooley and Joseph have employed but there is still a question of can the two adapt readily to recruiting in the SEC vs. at LaTech.

There is no way to judge that at this point. It will be February before anything discernible can be learned. So to say Dooley is recruiting well or poorly at this point is simply misguided.

We were on more lists but we kept finishing 2nd and 3rd to all the CA and FL guys.

And we legitimately lead for about 10 guys right now who we really want. Can't say the same for last year. I barely remember us actually leading for anybody. We were just "in the mix." Kiffin was out there taking commits from Jose, Harris, and Broussard just to keep the positive spin. We didn't want any of those guys.

Dooley is doing a better job recruiting right now imo.

We do lead for more players, but certainly at this time last year we were on the lists of the BEST PLAYERS.

It's also hard to tell because we have to commit soo many spots to one or two positions... (TE, OL,DL)

Agreed we were on more lists. which doesn't mean anything.

Nick Saban doesn't seem too worried about the level of competition he plays against.

I wonder how many people would be saying not to worry about him if he said today that UT is his leader. My guess is probably not many.

The point is, dont spend all your money on the girl that wants all the attention, but doesnt really want to date you in the first place. Its just a waste of valuable time and effort.

Perfect analogy.

I would love for this kid to be a Vol. But if he's giving signals that he really isn't interested, there are alot of players with as much ability who play against better competition who are.

It isn't at all about not wanting the kid... but more about whether you spend your time and resources trying to turn a kid who has you way down his list.

Washington will be the number two player in the state. I could see him as a Javier Arenas type player.

I would love to have him as a Vol. I do think he is a little overrated and we can find guys just as good as him.

I would just not waste my time.

But Dooley is still recruiting him. Look at the article stuff I posted yesterday. he is meeting with Dooley very soon.

No it was the 2nd largest. Missed Saban's 1st year by about a 1000, but part of the stadium is under construction.

Yep and Gamecock fans are still unhappy about him leaving the state. But we need the depth right now at DB. If any of our DBs turn out to be 1/2 of what EB was at UT I will be happy.

Just read on one forum that J Washington's father said he did not commit. Again 2nd hand information and since nothing really supports that he did I would say he did not.
