For sure. One of our biggest problems on D is being undersized, which only exaggerates the depth issue.Just saying in general. I'm sure there are some people that will bash Dooley for trying to add bulk to the D.
I mean, we did have a guy on here a couple weeks ago who absolutely pissed because Dooley said he preferred safeties around 215.
Which would put him at at 230+...by his second year 240 or so which is a good sized LB in a 4-3.Paul is an excellent athlete, so good he could play safety. He's a little bigger than Brent Brewer right now with a more wiry frame. he can easily pack on 10 lbs of muscle in the 2010 off-season program.
235-250 is NFL-size, not college.
Patrick Willis - 240
Clay Mathews Jr - 240
Demeco Ryans - 250
Jon Beason - 237
These are their list weights, I bet they aren't even as big as listed. 235 to 250 for an incoming freshman is nowhere near "light in the pants". 222 coming into college is actually quite good. Clay Mathews was 165 coming into college. A D1 S&C program can add good weight quickly so I think Paul has great size for his speed.
Dooley wants his linebackers around 235 all across the board. Look at the ones he's recruiting...all big kids before they even get into the S&C program.
We're trying to bet bigger and stronger on D without sacrificing much speed...you may or may not agree with the strategy, but that's what's happening.
