'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Looks like he'll be playing in the SEC, with UT, LSU & Auburn being the likely candidates. Our advantage is that we have him close to the top and have made him a top priority & he knows that......LSU & Auburn have a couple guys ahead of him.

can only bring in 26, no more than that.

Can you take one scholly from somewhere else and still play a player? Another words, could Justin Hunter have used a track scholly or if a great player/student uses an academic scholly, can he still play?

No, if a player plays football & another sport his scholly will be counted as a football scholly. The NCAA covered that recently.

no. you play football you have to count against the football scholarship number of 85. no matter what kind of scholarship it is, still would count on the 85

So, if you grey shirt a player you're just saying we'll give you a scholly next year if we feel you deserve it?

yes HG, thats the rule, Latwaan originally went to UM on track scholly but then a cple kids wwere dismissed/released from the UM team and he immediately began practicing with the football team and he was placed on Football scholly...

thats why I was trying to tell you Ahmad Christian to UF under the guise of a baseball scholly would not work out.

If you play football with a scholarship (regardless where its from) you count against the 85 limit.

LW is correct. I had a relative that was on a full scholly for track but had to pay tuition when walking on to the UT football program (even though he remained on the track team.)

HG, what Im telling you is the absolute 100% correct answer. if the kid comes in and plays the bigger sport during his 1st yr on campus, a scholarship is used from the football/basketball...

the rule was changed to keep the Nick Saban's & Dennis Ericksons, & Butch Daviss of the world from manipulating the Scholarship limits and stashing players and not having their scholarships count towards their "real" sport

IF those schollys didnt open up at UM, Latwaan was going to have to strictly run track his entire 1st yr on campus.

but schollys opened up and they got him on the practice field.

He did this to not mess with TN's 85# right?

Relative must have wanted to walk-on bad...

Not questioning Jay but someone on UF side seems to think differently. Maybe because AC will play baseball his first year, but from all the talk on the baseball forum the kid is going to play baseball at UF if he isn't drafted high. *sorry for reply covering AC in Paul's thread*
