If you can cleanly field a punt, you're worth a scholarship.
Look at how many times that bit Tennessee on the ass this season.
Is it worth a scholarship over bodies on the DL and OL and Linebackers and secondary players? Which we desperately need.
With Pagan, Wright, Johnson, Bigelow, Morris, and Moore still realistic possibilities, you can't just give up when the class fills up. In my opinion, each of the 4 have more talent and can contribute more significantly than DY and maybe a few other recruits. I know the coaches love Devrin. I know they can't ask him to look elsewhere, but something has got to give somewhere.
Cobb wanted to play QB here, if I recall correctly. That's why he didn't get the offer til late.

The staff isn't going to pass over Paul w/o landing a better talent. This is likely a smokescreen so the kid has his day w/o everyone knowing. If it's not then that means the staff feels that we're going to land Dawson or another elite LB. If I had to bet on one it's that Paul has committed silently to the staff and wants it kept quiet. You really think the staff would pass on Paul w/o having someone better on the hook? I don't.
would be great if this was the caseThis is the third or fourth time I have seen this idea expressed today, but in my opinion, it is not a possibility at all. Hubbs is all about the program and cannot afford to do or say anything that is not politically correct. His quote that "I am not sure how interested Tennessee is in him" is saying that the staff likes and wants at least one potential recruit more than Paul, and is willing to wait. In fact, that is the mildest spin I can put on it, which made it such a surprising way for Hubbs to say it. Whatever is going on, that was surely not a way to "give a recruit his moment in the sun", or however you want to put it.
Frankly, I was shocked when I read the comment from Hubbs. With our linebacker situation (a lot of bodies, but short on talent and speed), it never occurred to me that we would not jump at the opportunity to land Paul. To do this, I would have to think that we have Dawson or some other top rated LB locked up, and a strong chance to get another one.
I dunno.

Vol.
Jay...
Why do you think Hubbs was saying that Tennessee was not as interested in Paul as Paul was interested in Tennessee??
That statement startled me when I read it. I hope you are right and Gionni will be a Vol -- and I hope he was not offended by Hubbs' remark, although I doubt that it would be a factor in his decision.
Personally, I would take Paul in a heartbeat, but I oviously am not privy to what the staff knows about who we are in good shape with on our board.
Please expound on your "Vol" remark in light of what Hubbs said -- Thanks. Always interested in your take on things.

They are nuts if they put Paul on hold for a longshot like Dawson. Plus they need both IMO. Maybe I'm missing something but I just dont see the overall talent or athleticism at OLB on the current roster, especially if they are sticking with a 4-3 like everyone has been saying.
If you run a 4-3 you better have fast OLB's that can cover. Just look at the UAB game this year when they had a MLB playing at OLB. It was ugly.
