'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

With Pagan, Wright, Johnson, Bigelow, Morris, and Moore still realistic possibilities, you can't just give up when the class fills up. In my opinion, each of the 6 have more talent and can contribute more significantly than DY and maybe a few other recruits. I know the coaches love Devrin. I know they can't ask him to look elsewhere, but something has got to give somewhere.

You worry too much. :hi:

Rumors on VQ that Paul is a lot smaller than expected, which is a cause for concern with the staff.

Any info on this, Jay?

well both espn and scout have him at 6'0
I am betting that means he is more like 5'10 or 5'11
kind of small i suppose

Damnit, why cant crap work out for us. Screw his size, sign the dude up, tulloch (Titans LB) is well under 6 ft tall and he makes plays all day long.

He can't be any smaller than Taylor was last year. Just a rumor though....may be bull.

The new recruiting guy from KNS doesn't think the rumors are true though.

well him being small is a fact.... it bothering the staff is the rumor

Right. The staff knew all along that he was on the smaller side (6 ft, 215 or so). The rumor is that once he got on campus, he was even smaller than expected. Like 5'10, 200.

Dooley is looking to bulk up both sides of the ball & he may not want to take the risk on a smaller kid in this class.

Well the problem with our linebackers now is they are small and slow, terrible combination. This guy is one of the fastest LB's this yr. He is a must take, Even if it leads to him only playing passing downs.

I think members of the staff have visited him multiple times, I'm sure they don't carry the measuring tape with them but you would think they would notice if he is that undersized.

I'm just not buying this stuff that the staff isn't sure they want him all the sudden.

I'm skeptical as well. They've put a lot of effort into a kid that is, by all accounts, a damn good football player. I just can't fathom them holding off on him all of a sudden. But, that's the rumor & it's worth discussing.

Paul is an excellent athlete, so good he could play safety. He's a little bigger than Brent Brewer right now with a more wiry frame. he can easily pack on 10 lbs of muscle in the 2010 off-season program.

If he is smaller than expected he could be the size saftey CDD wants if he as good of and athlete as expected....

I could care less about his height. Al Wilson and Eric Westmoreland were great 5'foot'11 OLB's at Tennessee (before Al moved to MLB for his Senior year). Lathers isn't exactly tall either and he is by far the best LB Tennessee has in pass coverage.

All I know is Tennessee better get some fast OLB's that can cover the pass. It's a much better scenario to the alternative which we saw in the UAB game when Austin Johnson was trying to cover the pass at OLB.

UT has been after Paul for quite sometime.

They've also visited with him before his official. How did they not know about his "height" issues before this weekend? I'm not buying it either. So Tennessee is backing off when all the other powers in the South are now going all out for the kid? Strange if it's true.

It's not.

I can't see the rumors being true. I think we'd know about an issue with his height long before now considering how long the staff has pursued him.

Gionni Paul has the look of Sean Spence.

and there arent more than 5 4-3 OLBs in College that I'd take over Spence.

where did this come from that Vols all of a sudden dont like Paul? I missed it

are you sure that is the case?

No one is 100% sure but I'll stand by my statements that Paul is already a Vol and all this is a smokescreen until he announces OR we're landing Dawson, Wilder, etc...And even if they felt comfortable with Dawson, Wilder, etc.. I just don't see our staff all of a sudden being turned off by Paul after all this time of recruiting him so hard. I'm reading between the lines on this one...Paul is a Vol if he wants to be.
